Aircraft Media

Since it's 'media' as well as pictures, some Aircraft/Aviation-related tunes!
Minus the obvious 'Danger Zone' or 'Mighty Wings' because I just assume people know those.
I've actually been trying to track down the origins of this for a bit, because I knew a pilot who went by the nickname. Not sure if he got it from this or the 'Sky King' radio and TV show there was in the 50s (which is a hoot to check out, for those of you with any curiosity on old radio shows or Lassie-style programming from back in the day).

Right alongside 'Kenny Loggins' in terms of famous artists with aviation-based songs should probably be these yabos.

Honorable mention to John Denver for 'Leaving on a Jet Plane' and Merle Haggard for 'Silver Wings'.

Somewhat more related to the thread, I must mention British Airways made a commercial years ago I still remember and that still brings a tear to my eye. Whatever ad-copy-writing Brit who came up with the words had a flair for the dramatic, managed to make it seem to be about human spirit and ingenuity much more than advertising, and then combined with the visuals they used it works.

Less video-y
The Interwar period always seemed like a neat time for aviation and aircraft design to me. That period of 'We know the basics, but how to really do some of this stuff still escapes us or we don't quite have the materials/efficiency to do it' just seems so...heck, I guess 'romantic' would be the term?

I always liked the look of the Hawker Siddely Trident, especially in its early British European Airways scheme. Unfortunately one of these was the subject of what is still Britains worst ever air accident. (Lockerbie doesn't count since it wasn't an accident but terrorism)

I bought and have played Ace Combat 7. Such a fun game.

Another video for all of you today. Once again about the F-15. This is a short clip about Zivi Nedivi, who landed the F-15 with only one wing after a midair collision during a training exercise.

@Vargas Fan the Trident was very much hobbled by early design decisions leading to a situation in which growth to meet customer needs led to, among other things, the plane getting a fourth engine, also in the tail.... The avionics were almost impossibly advanced for the era.

I remember hearing about the brief career of the four engined Trident (Quadrant?). The crash of BEA Flight 548 didn't help, with the sales of the American mid rangers like the 727 catching up. While in that case there seems to have been some issues with the design of the droops lever, it seems mainly to have been the fault of the autocratic Captain Keyes and his health problems.

I think 548 was an example of how CRM can save planes, yes.

CRM?

I know it mentioned in that documentary I posted that there was no cockpit voice recorders at that time, but there was a flight data recorder. So it was never totally ascertained as to the cause of the crash. There was an episode of Air Crash Investigation AKA Mayday in some countries that speculated on a variety of causes but seemed to think Keyes health problems was the main problem. It mentioned that some of his achknowledgements to the tower were very short and terse, morse so than was usual which was regarded as a probability of his health. He had had a rather blazing argument with a crew member in the crew lounge prior to the flight which might have caused a flare up.

Sadly a B-17 crashed today in Connecticut, engine problems and crashed just short of the runway.

It is a terrible shame, but the reality is it’s just going to be harder and harder to keep old Warbirds flying.
