"Helo, start the clock." Margaret 'Racetrack' Edmondson said as she finished inputting the jump coordinates into the hyperlight drive of Raptor 307.

Admiral Adama had ordered surveys of several systems within and along the Colonial Fleet's planned course towards Earth, in hopes of finding resources the mining ships could extract. As well, now that they had Pegasus and it's ability to actually build new Vipers, there was more of a reason to risk tying ships down in one place for an extended period of time. But first the Raptor flights had to see if any of these systems had something the fleet could use.

"Roger, clock is running, jump in 10 seconds." Karl 'Helo' Agathon reported from his seat at the Raptors sensor and electronic countermeasures station.

While he was good at his job as a Raptor ECO, Helo would have preferred to stay on Galactica, and near his the mother of his child, if he'd had a choice. Particularly after what had happened to Sharon, or at least his Sharon, recently. Between President Roslin's ultimately aborted attempt to have Sharon's pregnancy terminated a couple days ago, and the near rape she had suffered when the Pegasus joined the fleet, Helo didn't feel comfortable being away from her for very long.

"Jumping." Racetrack said, just as the hyperlight drive activated.

Within seconds the Raptor had reappeared inside another solar system near a large gas giant, and both of the officers started up their Dradis scans. However, the scans took a backseat when their comms started picking up a large amount of radio transmissions.

"Racetrack, are you hearing this?" Helo asked, trying to figure out the source of the transmissions, which were somewhat garbled and distorted.

"Yeah, they don't look like they are on Colonial bands, and I've never heard of Cylons being this lax with their transmissions. Hang on, going to move us farther from this gas giant, see if it clears things up." Racetrack said as she angled the Raptor away from the gas giant, which she now noticed had a small ring around it.

"Seems like the radio traffic is pretty weak out here, but it looks like it's all coming from deeper in the system, possibly the third planet. But, from what little I can make out, it's almost sounds like humans." Helo said, not quite believing what he was seeing and hearing.

"Another group of survivors, like Pegasus?" Racetrack asked, as the possibilities spun through her mind.

"They aren't on Colonial channels, and there is way too much radio traffic for just a small fleet fleeing the attack on the Colonies. We need to get a closer look." Helo said, running through different filter and analysis procedures to try to clean up what they were hearing.

As the Raptor slowly moved closer to the system's star, the two officers found themselves more and more excited by what they were hearing and seeing. They couldn't understand most of the transmissions, but a few had something that almost sounded like it was the Colonial tongue. All of the transmissions they intercepted were being recorded for deeper analysis back on Galactica, and the source of them was finally coming into view.

"Racetrack, are you seeing this? Nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere, liquid water on the surface, large scale power grids, huge amounts of radio traffic...I can even see aircraft contrails in the atmosphere. There is also some sort of odd energy signature on the planet, it seems similar to tylium, but the computer cannot identify it. This planet is inhabited, and I think they are human, too." Helo said as he continued to look over the scans in awe.

"Helo, I'm going to spin up the drive and get us back to Galactica, they need to know what we've found. Screw looking for an asteroid to mine, we just found a life-supporting planet full of humans. Can you get us a star fix?" Racetrack asked.

"Get us out beyond the planet's moon, and I should be able to get one in a few minutes." Helo replied, tearing his gaze away from the readings they had taken of the planet to focus on setting up the jump back to Galactica.

"I got a fix, entering it now.' Helo said after a few minutes of taking star surveys.

"Starting the clock." Racetrack stated; a few second later they jumped out of the system and back to the fleet.

At that moment, down on the planet below them, two people look up into the sky and saw a flash of light just besides the Moon.

One was Lelouch Vi Britannia, having just announced the creation of his Knights of Justice, his Black Knights, to the world. Recovering the hostages from the JLF inside the Lake Kawaguchi Hotel had served as a grand stage to make his group's debut.

The other was Cornelia Li Britannia, watching the terrorist Zero, her brother's murderer, sailing away after having rescued her younger sister from a group of fools who still hadn't realized they lost their war years ago. It was both a bitter, and secretly joyous, occasion; she was enough of a warrior to realize how slim the chances of a successful rescue of her sister had been without Zero's help.

Neither knew what the flash had been, and both wrote it off as a shooting star. But that flash had just signaled a new hope, and a new threat, to what both of them wanted for their world and their loved ones.

AN: So finally hashed out the first chapter of a new fic I had been planning. Not going BS about promised updates, will only say I have a pretty good idea what I want to do overall with this fic, and the rest is filling in the details.

I plan to make sure each franchise has equal showing in both focus and tech respect, so fans shouldn't worry about one side of the cross eclipsing the other.

.......well this is interesting.

To be honest I think CG Earth is one of the worst possible Earths the RTF could encounter.

It's not gonna end very well for anyone.

Chapter 2: Demon in the Details Part 1

"Gaius, wake up. God has seen fit to answer your president's prayers." Gaius Baltar thought he heard as he woke with a start from...rather pleasant dreams.

His room aboard Colonial One was empty and he had no idea why he had suddenly awoken, until that sultry voice started speaking in his ear again.

"Good, you're up. It would not due to sleep though such a momentous day." The beautiful woman, who was both there and not, said as she ran her illussionary fingers over his shoulder.

"And what is so momentous about this particular day? Another saboteur aboard Galactica, Roslin going to have another vision." Baltar said snarkily as he began pulling his clothes on.

"No Gaius. What you will see today will put you on a path to a better future for our child. But this is a path where you will have to convince the Admiral and his son to seek out a demon." The woman said as she looked out the window.

"What do you mean, a demon? Another rogue Cylon like the Sharon model they have locked up over there?" Gaius asked as he adjusted his tie.

"No, something far, far more dangerous; this demon is fully human. You will know him by his mask and his Knights. You must convince the Admiral to attempt to contact him. The recon flight just returned, so it won't be long now." the Six stated as they saw a flash signaling a Raptor jumping in close to Colonial One.

"Well at least it will be an interesting day, not more endless Quorum meetings." Gaius said, wondering what sort of demon he was supposed to convince the Admiral to talk to.

****

"A life-supporting planet, with humans living on it; and massive amounts of them as well. This...how did we never notice an inhabited planet so close to the Colonies? Frakken stinks of a Cylon trap, if you ask me." Saul Tigh said as he and Admiral Bill Adama looked over sensor logs and photos of the planet Helo and Racetrack had found.

Three officers were across the table from them, with Lee Adama, Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace, and Felix Gaeta also in attendance for thier opinions and insight. They were waiting on Vice President Baltar to arrive, so that he could double check the data before they took this to President Roslin. The President of the Colonies was still recovering from her near death experience with cancer in Galactica's medbay. Dr. Cottle wanted to keep her close by till she regained her strength.

"We'll wait till Baltar gets here and looks it over before we make any final judgements. I don't know if this is a Cylon ruse, or if we just found where the Cylons hid after the Armistice. The loose comm traffic may be the result of the human models thinking we'd never find the place, though the fact they are using multiple unknown languages...seems rather elaborate for a trap. And there are no basestars in orbit; I would think if this was the Cylon homeworld, there'd be at least a few on guard duty." Adama stated, looking over the partial surface map that they had put together.

"Admiral, best estimate on population size is...over 7 billion people. And they do seem to have limited space fairing capability, based on the number of satellites in orbit. Still no answer as to what that odd energy signature is; it's rather wide spread based on what the sensors showed. What is odd is no radiological signatures, not even waste products or residual isotopes, were detected. So whoever they are, they don't seem to have nuclear technology." Gaeta intoned as he collected and ran through separate sensor logs from both sets of gear on the Raptor.

"...that's a lot skinjobs if that's actually the Cylons. And Sharon made it sound like they were a long way from home as well. It's why they needed that frakking resurrection ship." Starbuck stated with a troubled look on her face.

"How many hours of signal recordings did they get on the approach?" Lee asked Gaeta.

"They were collecting for about 10 hours, but it's a lot of different channels and frequencies; best guess is over 2500 hours of individual broadcasts. A lot of the first hour of stuff was garbled from the radiation belts of the gas giant they initially jumped near to. But after that, it's mostly clear, though I cannot understand 95% of it. There are recordings using something that sounds like Colonial, though it seemed almost like commercials on the wireless back in the Colonies. The accents were really thick, so I only caught part of what was said; here, this is one of the clearer segments of it." Gaeta said as he pulled up the relevant section of the recordings. The five officers stood around silently for a few minutes.

"That sounded like a shampoo, then a car, commercial. They even have the fast talking small print voice at the end." Starbuck stated, her eyes making it seem she wasn't quite believing what she was hearing.

At that moment a knock was heard on the door to the room, before the Marine guard let Gaius Baltar into the room. The Vice President of the Colonies immediately made his way over to the group.

"So, what exactly sent you calling for my scientific talents today, Admiral?" Gaius said, sounding rather bored.

"Mr. Vice President, a recon flight found something...unexpected and we want you to look it over before we take this to the President herself. If this isn't an elaborate Cylon ruse, we may have found a sanctuary for the fleet." Admiral Adama said as he handed over print outs of the photos and sensor data.

It took several minutes for Gaius to accept what he had been asked to examine, but there was no doubt in his mind that this was no Cylon ruse. Now, he just had to find this masked demon that his companion had talked about.

"Admiral, I doubt that what we are seeing is a Cylon ruse. We need to do a deeper analysis, and try to build up some sort of translation codex, using the limited amount of near-Colonial language they recorded. Till that is done, I cannot say for sure what is going on here." Gaius said, realizing he'd need time to more thoroughly sort through what the Raptor had found.

"Agreed. Mr. Gaeta, I want you to assist the Vice President, and see if you can find any linguists in the fleet who could assist in this. I want this kept only to those of us in this room till the translation is done. I sent Racetrack and Helo back to the planet to collect more signals, and told them not to spread around information about what they found. I'll brief the President when we have the translation codex finished. Till then, I want her focused on her own recovery, not stressing over a mess of unknowns." The Admiral stated, meeting the eyes of everyone on the room in turn.

"Da...Admiral, this is too big to be kept secret long. A habitable planet full of humans is going to change everything. I mean, what if this is Earth?" Lee asked.

"If this is Earth, we will lead the Cylons right to them, if we jump there without clearing the fleet of any potential Cylon agents. And if they don't have combat spacecraft or nukes, they'd be sitting ducks for a Cylon attack. Galatica and Pegasus can protect the fleet, but not a whole frakking planet." Saul intoned, looking very somber.

"If this is Earth...then we can only pray we can clear the fleet of any and all Cylons before we take the fleet there. Lee, I want you and Starbuck to assist in the translation work as well. Once we get a translation codex worked up, I want you two to take it out to Racetrack and Helo so we can get a running translation on any intercepts they pick up.. We need to know more about this planet before we jump the fleet to the system or attempt contact. For now, get the translation work done." Admiral Adama stated to the assembled group.

****

It had been three days since the Admiral ordered the creation of a translation codex for languages used by the humans on the planet the Raptor had found, and Gaius was almost at his wits end trying to sort out all the languages the planet used.

"How the hell am I supposed to create a translation codex for over two hundred different languages? The couple linguists we found in the fleet were almost useless. We have a substantial codex built up for a total of TWO of the languages, and that is only because they are so wide spread. And I still haven't found this masked demon you said I need to find." Gaius said to himself and his invisible companion, looking over the mess of print outs, transcripts, and video playback screens that occupied the conference room they were using.

It was the middle of the night cycle, and Gaius was alone in the room. The others involved in the work were currently eating, sleeping, or more likely drinking in Tigh's case.

"It is in the recordings the Raptor brought back. You just need to have faith that you will find it." The illusionary woman said, standing across the table from Gaius in her red cocktail dress.

"Well it'd be helpful if you or your god could give me a frakking hint! There are over 900 cumulative hours of just video recordings, and in multiple languages. And I've got to do this while the others are coming in and out as well!" Gaius nearly screamed.

"Gaius, your answers are just beyond your finger tips. Do not look for this demon in mundane entertainment or dribble. Search the records for things that are not scheduled programs, look instead for where events are unfolding in real time. The demon we seek has only just revealed his army to his own world." The sultry voice said as her there-but-not hands massaged Gaius's shoulders.

"Well, that's slightly more helpful. We're looking for breaking news, which cuts out about 90% of the video recordings." Gaius stated, shifting the parameters of the primitive search function Lt. Gaeta and himself had cobbled together.

Within minutes, Gaius was sure he'd found the broadcast his companion wanted him to see. It had been relatively easy to find, once he knew what he needed to search for. It seemed to be a hostage situation at a hotel in the middle of a lake, going by the rough translation the translation codex was showing him. The odd humanoid military machines these humans seemed to favor were all over the screen, cordoning off the structure, and the on-scene commander happened to be someone who was alternatively called a 'Princess' or 'Viceroy'.

"Yes, that's what god wants you to see Gaius, the debut of this demon's army. Keep watching till the end, and you will know why I called his army Knights." The illusionary woman's voice said as Gaius watch the event unfold, enraptured by the drama he was witnessing.

When the masked man appeared on a large yacht, surrounded by people in black uniforms, it was then Gaius knew he had seen this demon for the first time. The speech he gave reminded Gaius of a mix of Tom Zarek's rhetoric, though with a bit more class, and Lee Adama's earnest appeals.

"So, this is the demon god wanted me to find. Doesn't seem terribly demonic to me." Gaius said, looking over additional reporting on the incident that had been intercepted.

"In time Gaius, you will understand. For now, you need to figure out how to convince the Admiral to search for and approach that man. I recommend you sleep on it however; these sort of arguments are more convincing from a man who doesn't look like he's been awake for a week straight." The sultry voice intoned as she sashayed to the door.

Sleep did sound like a good idea, and the Raptor's return had interrupted some rather good dreams, Gaius thought, as he followed the illusionary woman out the door.

"Admiral, the pain drugs Dr. Cottle has given me may be clouding my perception, but did you just say you think we've found what may be Earth, or at least a habitual planet with humans on it, some of whom speak a bastardized and almost unintelligible form of ancient Caprican." President of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol Laura Roslin said from the confines of her hospital bed.

"Yes Madam President. We've kept it need to know, till we can eliminate or contain all Cylon agents in the Fleet. The planet does not have meaningful space flight or space combat equipment, or even nuclear weapons technology, according to our scans. If we jump there now, we risk leading the Cylons there, and we cannot defend a whole planet with just two Battlestars. As well, based on an analysis done by Lt. Gaeta and Vice President Baltar, the planet is not a unified entity, and the political situation makes the Colonies look like paragons of cooperation in comparison." Bill Adama said to the woman as she sipped on a glass of water.

"So if we cannot take the fleet there now, and you need time to weed out any lingering Cylons, what are your current plans? How many people know?" Laura asked, pushing her glasses up.

"We've kept it minimal, but there are already rumors among the Raptor ground-crews after we had them refit Raptor 307 for extended endurance. Outside those of us in this room, only Lt. Dualla and Chief Tyrol know, due to taking the call when they jumped back and due to needing to know where the supplies were going respectively. However we have a larger issue. As Vice President Baltar will explain, in order to secure the fleet from Cylon infiltrators any time in the next few years, we may have to resort to some unorthodox methods." The Admiral stated.

"I'll need to expand the Cylon testing facilities and personnel to speed up the testing throughput, which could compromise the security of those tests. Or it would, if we conducted those tests here aboard the fleet. We have other options now, if we are willing to risk making a deal with a...well lets just call it a vigilante group on Earth. Here is what we know about it's leader, a man who calls himself Zero and his group, which he calls the Black Knights. " Gaius said, handing out the packets of information he had compiled.

"What exactly does this group have to do with solving the security and manpower shortage for the Cylon tests?" Laura asked after glancing at the cover sheet.

"Humans on this new planet can be safely assumed to not be Cylon agents, and have advanced enough technology that if shown how, could create the fissile materials needed for the tests with little issue. If we transferred all the blood samples to a planet-side lab, we could safely conduct the tests with the help of the personnel from the vigilante group. In exchange, we offer them the promise of new technology and capabilities." Gaius explained, trying to sound as clinical as possible.

"Why not go to any of the official governments, who we will obviously have to make contact with if we want refuge for our people in the future? Surely they could provide the necessary supplies and personnel in a much more expedited manner. A vigilante group would have to get their supplies from the black market and sympathizers, which adds addition time and logistical delays." the President inquired, looking over the estimated numbers and tech requirements for the expanded testing facility.

"That is exactly what I asked the Vice President as well. His answer is...logical, but massively risky and is the sort of thing that goes beyond a 'military matter'. Which is why you need to be the one to ok it, Madam President." Bill said, looking the woman directly in the eyes.

"I appreciate the candor you have spoken with and confidence you have expressed about my plan. Particularly, given who you are planning to send, if we get the Presidents go-ahead." Gaius said to Adama, before turning back to Roslin.

"Madam President, the plan is rather straight-forward, at least in terms of getting the equipment we need. The reason I selected this Zero figure as our first contact is because he seems to be a non-state actor with his own logistics base and because of his seeming...'code of honor', for lack of a better term. He may be able to provide us with material without us necessitating giving away too much about the fleet or our technology, at least in the short term. As well, his 'knights of justice' rhetoric makes me believe that should we be forced to reveal more than we wish to get his aid, he will find our plight to be something he is sympathetic too. Though on a more grim side, we can sell information about the group to secure favor with the legitimate nation states if the time comes where our interests are no longer served by working with the vigilante group." Baltar stated having somewhat rehearsed the lines in his head, having anticipated her questions.

"What sort of aid are you planning to offer initially? We don't exactly have an abundance of resources for us to trade with." the President of the Colonies replied, after rubbing he forehead in exasperation.

"We do have space capabilities this planet does not possess, which opens a whole realm of options. We also plan to offer certain...unique software capabilities we have in our hands. After talking it over with the Vice President, we've agreed we want to send the copy of Sharon in the brig to the planet, as part of a team consisting of her, Lt. Gaeta, Apollo, and Starbuck. Lt. Agathon is already involved, and keeping this from her without keeping them from speaking with each other seemed doom to fail. This way we may have faster access to their mainframes and networks, and can figure out how to harden them against Cylon intrusion attempts." The Admiral stated.

"Wait, you're sending Lee and Kara on this mission? Why?" the President asked.

"Madam President, they stand the best chance of being able to survive a fight in the ground or in the air. Gaeta is already involved and is calm under pressure, and knows what we need to keep the blood tests running. We'll explain everyone's absences by saying they are working for the President on a personal project on an undisclosed ship." Saul Tigh said from his position at Adama's side.

"You want me to lie everyone about this, for an undetermined length of time till we have accounted for all the Cylons in the fleet? Particularly about where the Sharon copy and her child are? Do you know what will happen if it gets out we've found what might be Earth, but we cannot go there because the Cylons might follow us? The election in not far off, and if Zarek gets a whiff of this he'll use it to throw the fleet into chaos that he can then exploit. And what happens if the the Cylons notice the Sharon copy and her child are missing?" Laura responded, looking at them all like they had lost their minds.

No one had an immediate answer to that, as they could all see why she was right to be concerned.

"With regards to the Sharon copy, saying she's been moved and hidden for the safety of the fleet should buy us at least some time before any Cylon agents notice she's gone. Madam President, there are absolutely risks involved here. But they are risks we can manage and plan for. The sooner we get started, the better our chances. "The Admiral stated, finally.

"...Admiral I want to make one thing perfectly clear. When this gets out, and it will if we take the fleet to this planet, everyone here is going to own their part in this decision. We are talking about arming a non-state actor with weapons and technology no one else on that planet will have access to, including giving them nuclear technology." The President said in a very slow and serious tone.

"I'm ready to wear this decision Madam President, if it secures the future of our fleet and our species." Bill stated. Tigh nodded as well, and Gaius sighed in satisfaction, but played at reluctantly nodding along.

"Very well, you have my permission to carry out this plan. Now if you do not mind, I'd like to sleep away this new migraine you've dropped in my lap. Good day gentlemen." Roslin said as she laid back against the mattress of the hospital bed.

It was all Gaius could do to hold down the grin, and the uncomfortable sense of dread, that he felt as he exited Galactica's sick bay.

"Helo, did you just say the Admiral has a mission for me? As in, not in chains, not with marine's watching my every move, honest to the gods mission? He does remember I'm both a Cylon, and pregnant, right?" Sharon said from behind the glass.

"Yes, yes he did. Sharon, what we found...you need to see it with you're own eyes. The Admiral wants you along specifically because of your abilities. What we will be dealing with...you'll understand when we get there. Look, I love you, and I wouldn't be backing the Old Man on this if I thought it was unreasonable risk to you and our child." Helo said, trying to ease Sharon's misgivings.

"Did the fleet stumble upon another group fleeing the Colonies?" the Cylon asked as she tried to read Helo's face.

"No, no we didn't. Once we are off the ship, we'll be briefing you and Mr. Kiekeya about the mission." Helo stated.

"Wait, the President is sending Billy on this mission? The kid looks like his balls have barely dropped. He's got no military experience or...anything really, from what I've heard." Sharon said, not quite hiding her astonishment at the seemingly poor choice of representative the President had picked.

"From what I've heard, Dee might disagree with that assesment, if you know what I mean. Anyway, President Roslin wanted a personal representative on the mission, and he's known her the longest. In total, it will be you, me, Racetrack, Billy, Gaeta, Lee, and Starbuck. You'll understand when we get there. Dr. Cottle and Gaeta are going to come by to give you a quick medical exam before we head to the Raptor. I have to head down to the flight deck to finish the loading and pre-flight checks; Gaeta will bring you down once the exam is done. Sharon, trust me when I say this could be a whole new beginning for us, if we do this right." Helo said, just before the door to the doors into the room with the containment cell opened, with Dr. Cottle and Gaeta coming through the hatch.

"Why is Gaeta here?" Sharon asked, looking a bit worried.

"Because young lady, someone on that bird needs to know what to do if you go into labor and cannot get back here in time. And unlike those Viper jocks who'll be flying with you, Mr. Gaeta actually listens to instructions fairly well." Dr. Cottle said as he unlocked the cell.

Helo couldn't help but crack a bit of a grin at that and even Sharon chuckled a bit at the dig at Lee and Kara.

****

"You know, when the Admiral said he needed my 'special abilities' I thought he meant hacking systems that have never dealt with Cylon's before. I wasn't expecting him to also mean my physical features." Sharon said as the Raptor flew at nearly wave-top height across an ocean towards the island chain where the man the Admiral wanted them to find was located.

"This world's got some pretty frakked up politics, worse than the Colonies ever were, and the natives of the island chain we are headed to look a lot like you. If we stick to the story Baltar and the Admiral put together, that of being 'Greek partisans' who want out from under the Euro Universe with Zero's help, we should be fine. It'll at least mean our horrible accents won't raise much suspicion." Gaeta commented.

"Speaking of the 'Greeks' anyone else find a lot of disturbing similarities in their mythology and ours? They have all the same gods the Colonies did, but their religion is over 2500 years old, maybe more. Which is older than the date for when the 13th Tribe left Kobol. And if this is Earth, and people here have been worshiping our gods since long before our ancestors left Kobol, we may need to rethink what we believe we know about the Lords of Kobol and the 13th Tribe." Lee intoned from his place in the co-pilot's seat.

"I'm less concerned with ancient history than with those combat mechs they have; if we had those, the toasters wouldn't be near as threatening on the ground. One of those 'Knightmares' could decimate a platoon of Centurions. There are still people back on Caprica, and probably the other Colonies too. With those machines, we might be able to retake our homes, even if the radiation means it'll be a while before we could safely resettle the planets." Starbuck said, thinking about Anders and the other's she left behind on Caprica.

"...I'm still not sure why I'm here. I'm at best a presidential aide, not a politician or ambassador." Billy said from his seat.

"Join the club, kid. I get you are the President's rep on this mission, but why didn't she send Baltar; he's at least seen some combat on Kobol." Racetrack stated.

"He's Vice President, and the best scientific mind we have left. Those are both strong reasons to keep him aboard the fleet for now. Mr Kiekeya, just follow our lead and do what we say, and things should be fine. The president selected you because you are so familiar with both her thinking, and with the fleet's overall situation. That is not an insignificant thing and critical if we are going to present this Zero character with a serious proposal. Plus, you'll have all sorts of stories to tell Dee when you get back." Gaeta replied, smirking at Billy as he finished speaking

Billy perked up a bit at that, then flushed with embarrassment at them bringing up Dee, though he still seemed a bit nervous about the whole mission.

"Ok folks, enough chit chat, we are coming up on the islands. Our landing point is in a bombed out and abandoned town down the coast from the city where this Zero is likely located. Remember, you are all going into what should be considered a war-zone, and the Admiral gave me and Helo explicit orders to not allow this Raptor to be discovered. We will be moving the Raptor to a more secure location once we drop you off; if you need to communicate with us, do it via the encrypted radio sets the Admiral set with us." Racetrack stated as she flew the Raptor towards the chosen landing point.

Don't worry, with a fic that crosses such different and plot heavy stories some setup is not only expected but mandatory to allow fans from one series to follow the other side until the fusion is complete, and that sounds like a megazord joke, and neither the knightmares nor the centurions can do that... yet.

"This place reminds me a lot of what Caprica was like after the attacks." Starbuck said as she, Sharon, and Gaeta walked along the dilapidated and sometimes cratered streets of what the digital guidebook they had found was called the 'Shinjuku ghetto'.

"Actually, I think Caprica was cleaner, if you ignored the radiation." Sharon said from her place ahead of the other two. The Admiral had said letting her lead any ground contact party would hopefully look less threatening to locals.

"Yeah, and the toasters crawling all over the place. Gaeta, how many blocks to the diner that the shopkeeper pointed us to?" Starbuck said as they stopped at a street corner.

"The location that she gave us is somewhere about six blocks ahead of us, if I'm reading this map right." Gaeta said as he looked at a small streetmap.

"Did the she say how we will know who we need to talk to?" Sharon asked.

"No, she didn't. She implied that they would seek us out once we got to the diner, if they thought we were legitimate." Gaeta said as the group moved closer to the diner.

"Well great, so we could be waiting who know how long once we get there." Kara groused.

Word had made it's way to the Black Knight's command staff that some people had asked a shopkeeper in Shinjuku about how to contact Zero the day before. They were not Japanese, or at least not all of them, and had been reported to have odd Eastern European accents.

So instead of spending time with her mother, who was recovering from Refrain addiction before being sent to prison, Kallen was sitting in the kitchen of a diner with Kaname Ohgi, watching for the group who wanted to meet Zero.

"This is Kento; got eyes on the group, they're about a block away. Same as the report; two females, one possibly of Japanese decent, one that looks like a Brit, and a male who looks Eastern European. No obvious weapons, but their mannerisms lead me to think they are soldiers for somebody's army." A male voice said through their discreetly worn radios.

"Roger. Keep to the plan. We need to find out what they have to offer, before Zero will meet with them personally." Ohgi replied.

"I'm not sure what three people could offer us, but then again Zero is only one man and look what he's done." Kallen stated.

"Well we'll know soon, they're almost at the entrance. Ok, places people." Ohgi said.

That was the signal for the undercover Black Knights, acting as the restaurants staff and patrons, to get into character. Kallen and Ohgi were going to remain in the kitchen till the group placed their orders. They would then surprise the group when their food came out, by carrying it out themselves in full Black Knight uniforms.

****

The diner that the Colonials had been directed to was surprisingly well maintained and clean on the insides, despite the exterior looking as bad as most of the rest of the ghetto. They were greeted at the door by a young woman with an odd blue color to her hair, who told them to seat themselves while she brought them some water.

Sharon decided a to have the group sit at the counter on the far end near the wall, where they had the best views of the door and out the windows while leaving their backs to a wall.

"Well, I guess we should order something while we wait." Sharon said as they sat down.

"Sure, except we can't read most of the menu." Starbuck said as she flipped pages of the small menu.

"I'm just looking forward to having something not from the mess." Gaeta commented.

The waitress arrived with their water, and asked if there was anything she could get them.

"I'll have one of these...what do you call this noddles in a bowl with an egg on the top?" Sharon said. That got her a strange look from the waitress.

"You're Japanese and have never heard of ramen?" The waitress asked, incredulity in her voice.

"I'm half-Japanese, half-Greek, but was orphaned at a young age; this is my first time in my mother's homeland. I'd like to try this 'ramen' please." Sharon said, feeding the waitress part of the cover story the Admiral and Baltar had cooked up.

"Oh, I see. Ok, one ramen bowl. What would you like miss?" The waitress asked as she turned to Kara.

"What do you have that's spicy?" Kara asked, having been unable to make heads or tails out of the menu even with pictures.

"I can get you an order of wasabi beef with bell peppers. Spiciest thing on the menu." The waitress replied, to which Kara nodded in acceptance, before she turned to take Gaeta's order.

"I'll have one of these battered meat skewers please." Gaeta said, pointing to the picture on the menu.

"One order of shrimp tempura coming up." The waitress said before collecting their menu's and heading to the kitchen.

****

"Someone who's half-Japanese doesn't know what ramen is? Even if she's an orphan, she'd have probably seen some cheap export ramen's at a store at some point. Something's off here." Kallen said as Inoue, who was acting as the waitress, came into the kitchen.

"This group has an odd feeling to it, but they seem friendly enough. Though their accents are pretty thick, and I don't think English or Japanese is any of their native tongues. What do you think Inoue?" Ohgi stated.

"They're polite, and the Brit looking one wanted a spice challenge. Never seen a Brit who was a that big into spicy things before." Inoue said after she placed the orders with the cooks.

The three of them sat and watched the strangers chat while waiting for the food to be cooked. The group acted like they were trying to remain calm while still surveying their surroundings almost constantly. There were no other civie patrons in the diner, only Black Knight's masquerading as customers.

"Foods ready!" one of the cook's hollered.

"Well, time to greet these people properly." Kallen said as she picked up one of the trays.

****

The Colonials had been waiting about fifteen minutes when two people in uniforms emerged from the kitchen, carrying trays towards them.

"Guess those are probably our contacts." Sharon said quietly to Starbuck and Gaeta.

Starbuck quickly glanced at the approaching duo. An older, early middle-aged man with black hair and a younger, likely late-teens girl with red hair. Both were wearing the uniforms of the Black Knights, and based on the recordings Starbuck had seen, these two had been with Zero when he made their group's debut.

"Here's you meals folks, though I'll ask you wait a minute before you eat. I am Ohgi, Zero's second in command, and this is Kallen, head of Zero's personal unit. We'd like to know why you are seeking a meeting with Zero." Ohgi said with a calm but serious voice as he and Kallen put the food in front of the group.

"You can call me Sharon, while these to are Kara and Felix. We are members of a Greek independence movement, who want to kick the Euro Universe out of our affairs and reclaim our sovereignty. We want Zero's help with that, when he's finished liberating Japan, and are prepared to assist in Japan's liberation if Zero can help us with a...health and security concern our group is facing." Sharon said, repeating the cover story they had been given.

"Well, wanting out from under the EU is understandable, even of they aren't the monsters the Brits can be." Ohgi stated.

"How did you not know what ramen is? The stuff was exported all over the world as a cheap food source back before the invasion, and the Brits still allow a few companies to export it for a cut of the profits. It's hard to believe that you never encountered ramen in Greece or anywhere else you've been." Kallen asked, addressing her own concerns in a less diplomatic way than Ohgi.

The Colonials took a second to digest this, and knew they had been caught in a bind. Kara decided to try to turn the tables and hopefully get the conversation going another direction.

"You got some fire in you, don't you kid. But you don't look Japanese like your partner. You another half-blood like Sharon?" Kara asked, munching one of the bits of bell pepper in her meal.

Kallen stiffened at this, and almost went for the purse-blade she hid in her pocket. But Ohgi put a hand on her shoulder, signalling for her to ease up. He then took back the conversation.

"Yes, she is half-Britannian, half-Japanese. Zero himself is a Britannian and we have several others that have joined our group. The Black Knight are knights for justice, not just for the Japanese people. However her question is a legitimate one, please answer it." Ohgi said to the Colonials.

Sharon looked to Starbuck and Gaeta, trying to read what they thought would be the wisest way to handle this. In the end, Sharon decided to take a risk with her answer.

"That I'm afraid is classified information. If, and hopefully when, our groups start working together fully, I will be able to answer your question, Kallen." Sharon said, looking the younger woman in the eyes, while speaking in a calm and serious voice.

Kallen and Ohgi looked a little shocked by the answer, but then Kallen actually grinned a little.

"Ok, deal." The young red head said after thinking on it for a few seconds.

"Zero understands limiting the spread of information to only those who need to know. Now what sort of assistance can we be with the 'health and security' concern your group is facing?" Ohgi said, trying to get the conversation back on track.

"The nature of it is something we have been instructed not to divulge at this time. We are in need of certain supplies without the authorities noticing. In return for help procuring these supplies, we are willing to offer certain space-based real-time surveillance assets of ours to Zero. The exact details of the offer are something we are only supposed to speak with Zero himself about." Gaeta stated.

Ohgi and Kallen blinked, and Ohgi ran his hands through his hair.

"Well, I won't say your offer isn't a temping one. Zero would probably be thrilled to have the assets you offer. But this is his call, not ours. We will pass your message to him. Come back here day after tomorrow at this time, and someone from the Black Knights will have an answer for you. We'll leave you to your meals; don't worry about paying, we'll cover the bill." Ohgi said before looking at Kallen and motioning towards the door to the kitchen.

"Thank you; we hope to work together with you in the future." Sharon said as Ohgi and Kallen stood to leave.

Sharon then stuck her hand out, to see if handshakes were a thing here as well. Ohgi returned the gesture before he and Kallen returned to the kitchen.

"Well, guess we should dig in; maybe we should order some food to-go for Lee and Billy." Sharon stated.

"Probably a good idea; wouldn't want them bitching we didn't bring them back anything." Starbuck said as continued to down her meal.

"Anything changed on the ground?" Racetrack said, waking up to take over his watch at the Raptor's controls.

"No, last heard they were still on schedule for the second meeting with Zero's reps in about 15 minutes. I still wish they'd let us be on station to provide them a quick exit if things go south." Helo said, looking out at the entrance of the cave they had stashed the Raptor in.

They had flown for a several hours at high speed, low to the waves to avoid radar, till they found the isolated island. It was a dormant volcanic peak on a barren tan and black island, several hours flight from the main islands where they had left the contact team.

"You just want to be there to watch Sharon's back, given she's carrying your kid. We have the micro-sats and relays in orbit, so they can give Zero a demonstration if needed and get in contact with us if they need to. Get yourself some chow, and try to get some sleep; if we have to bug out fast I need you at 100%." Racetrack said as she grabbed a couple ration bars and tossed one to Helo. He grunted, shrugged, and moved passed her into the rear of the Raptor.

Kara Thrace sniffed the air, enjoying the smell of fresh fish and new flavors as she, Sharon, and Gaeta entered the diner.

Eyeing the openly uniformed Black Knights both outside the door and inside the restaurant, Kara thought "They aren't trying to hide who they are, even in the open. That's either a really good sign, or a really bad sign.

The group was silently ushered to a booth, where several appetizers and glasses of water were already placed. Both Sharon and Kara kept they're eyes mostly on the guards, while barely touching the food. After picking up one of the meat skewers on the plates on the table, Gaeta was the first to speak.

"I don't think Zero would waste the time to have his people cook for us, if they were going to kill us or betray us. Ease up, we don't want to give the wrong impression." he said softly to the two pilots. Sharon shrugged, then grinned and grabbed a dumpling.

"Yeah, and we thought Boomer was on our side, right up till she shot the Old Man. No offense, Sharon." Kara said, as she glanced around the diner.

Admitting to herself she did want to see if the stuff tasted as good as it smelled, she popped one of the meat skewers into her mouth. It was spicy, the sort of spicy one used to clear head congestion in couple bites, but it was also very succulent and tender. As Kara finished her skewer, she noticed several more Black Knights enter the diner and lock the door, before the man they'd met before, Ohgi, approached them.

"I hope you find the food enjoyable. Zero has decided to meet with you in person, and will be here momentarily. He requests you place any communication devices or weapons you have with you on the table, as an act of trust. In a show of mutual trust, they will not be touched or tampered with. Zero simply wants to see the sort of gear you have." Ohgi said, as he looked them each in the eyes.

"Fine, we will, when we see Zero himself. Not before that." Sharon said, looking Ohgi steady in the eye.

****

Lelouch Vi Britannia watched and listened as the half Japanese, half Greek woman stood up to Ohgi. She was not submitting to his conditions without a fight, and making a reasonable demand to see Zero in person before complying with the request.

"Well, this may actually be an entertaining negotiation. I do not think Zero should keep them waiting." Lelouch thought as he grinned and thrust open the kitchen doors near the booth where the Greeks were sitting. When the Greeks saw his entrance, they started slowly pulling electronic gear and guns out of their outfits. Behind him, Kallen, Kento, and Inoue brought out several large plates of food, before placing them on a cart next to the table.

"I am Zero! Comrades from the ancient lands of Athens and Sparta, you are welcome allies for the Black Knights! Enjoy the meals in front of you, and tell me of how you envision your group and the Black Knights aiding each other in the fight for freedom and justice." Lelouch said as he swept up to the table.

The half-Japanese, half-Greek woman Sharon stood to great him with an outstretched hand.

"I am Sharon...Agathon, this is Kara Thrace and Felix Gaeta. We are grateful you decided to meet with us, Zero. We are currently only authorized to negotiate for certain..exotic medical and industrial supplies, procured via your organization, in exchange for access to our orbital assets and small arms supplies. We have a...security and bio-hazard issue among our own organization, which we need to remedy before we can safely offer more material and technological assets to the Black Knights." Sharon said, staring into Zero's inscrutable mask. The masked man was silent for several seconds, then laughed heartily.

"Well, before I commit to anything, I'd like to know what exactly you have for space assets. I can get small arms rather easily, but having a few weapons from the EU allows a certain...versatility of stratagems, so I welcome that aid." Lelouch said, as Sharon sat back down.

"We have small tight beam satellites with an encryption that is near impossible to crack, due to none of the larger powers knowing of the...alternate programming language and protocols in them. We also have a limited amount of photo surveillance, ground penetrating radar, and environmental sensors available. Gaeta has the list of our small arms. General function and usage manuals translated into Japanese can be printed once we have a deal secured. This folder has the exact numbers we can offer at this time, as well as what we are asking for in return." Sharon said, before nodding to Gaeta, who handed over a small folder to Zero.

He opened the folder and silently read it for several minutes, before setting it down and taking a seat himself. He looked over the Colonials, before speaking.

"Your offer is generous, and I am willing to accept it. However, the materials you are asking for, and the quantities involved...I need to know what you meant by 'security and bio-hazard threat'. The medical gear listed is mundane for the most part, but the amounts are more in line with trying to treat a small city, not an underground militant group. And how exactly will 100 tons of uranium help you combat it? What use is a ceramics dye and esoteric industrial component, one that is already a semi-toxic heavy metal, in a situation like that?" Lelouch asked, eyes narrowing behind his Zero mask.

"That is classified, for now. Suffice to say, there is a particular blood disease we are trying to track down, and cure, in our group. We need the uranium for a new blood test to help isolate it. The security issue comes from mental degradation and blackout episodes that can happen in the later stages of the disease's progression. We need that much uranium because the refinement process is rather wasteful right now. The extra medical supplies are to help deal with the symptoms while we are testing and treating people." Sharon said, keeping her composure as Zero listened to her reply.

Lelouch listened to her, and in his mind, he could tell something wasn't adding up. What they were offering was well worth it if an alliance could be reached. But the materials, the amounts, and the explanation...something felt off. Lelouch was not interested in acquiring hazardous materials and expensive medical supplies for unknown actors. He had tried to dig up and ferret out what group he was dealing with, after the initial offer had come to him via Ohgi. But there was no Greek independence groups with near this kind of money, assets, and now suspected logistical base.

Lelouch decided he needed to know more before he decided what to do. Luckily, he had a way to do that. Lelouch just needed to get them alone so he could Geass them without tipping off the Black Knights to his power.

"I must think on this. I believe you are fellow seekers of a just world, and sympathize with your medical plight. However none of what you ask for is simple or easy to get in the quantities you requested. Not while the Black Knights are also focused on liberating Japan. I will contact you shortly about how we can make an alliance work." Lelouch pulled out one of the burner phones that he kept with him, to give to new contacts that would need to deal with him personally.

"How do we know you don't have it bugged with a tracker and mic, so you can sell out our location to the Brits or the EU, if you decide you don't want our deal?" Kara spoke up and said, looking at Zero like he was a Cylon raider in her cross-hairs.

Lelouch grimaced internally, but kept his calm Zero demeanor up. Gaining the trust and help of these Greeks would significantly ease certain issues for the Black Knights. But the unease he felt about their requested supplies lingered. Then an idea hit him.

"Fair enough. How about this; I offer to let Kallen leave with you, instead of giving you the burner phone. I will contact you through her within a day; she is one of my best soldiers and I am trust you with her safety as an act of good faith. Is that acceptable?" Zero said, not breaking off from Kara's glare.

"Wait, what? Zero, you cannot be serious?" Kallen said as she stood from her seat on one of the stools in front of the counter.

"Kallen, I am trusting you to properly represent the Black Knights while waiting for my call. I want to know your thoughts on their firearms, on how they handle, and how best to spread them to our forces. Will you do that?" Zero said, looking the red head in the eyes.

"If you're trusting me to do a firearms evaluation in your place, then yes I'll do it Zero." Kallen said, with a slight blush coming to her cheeks.

"Will you accept?" Lelouch then asked Kara and Sharon. They looked all looked at each other, before Kara nodded.

"Thank you. If there is nothing else, enjoy your meals, and I hope to be working with you all in the future." Zero said, before turning to exit back into the kitchen.

Now all he had to do was have Kallen bring them to a pre-staged meeting place, and Lelouch would be able to find out exactly who he was dealing with.

Break down Code Geass...Spartan, think Fullmetal Panic meets Eureka 7 meets Highlander/Autharian/Roman Mythology.

That's the best I can do without a wall of very spoilery text. Code Geass must be seen to be understood.

Can someone better with words give Spartan a non-spoiler breakdown?
