A Russian invasion of Ukraine: Just how far would Russia go and what would Russia's war aims be?

Yeah, if expanding Russia's sphere of influence is perfectly acceptable, why exactly is it unacceptable for the West to do the same thing? Central and Western Ukraine were previously Polish and, in some cases, Austro-Hungarian, after all.

Yeah, I do wonder if Russia's policies have always been done with Western interests in mind.

Interesting article. The Ukraine Army has increased in quality and quantity massively from 2014 when it was like five thousand combat ready troops. But I can see why the Central Government wouldn't want to actively create partisan forces 'just in case' the Russians do invade. There'd be a huge amount of potential headaches that could arise from that.

There's some other interesting bits like how it wasn't until recently that Ukraine was basically geared for fighting the low intensity War in the Donbass so while they've invested in the expansion of a volunteer professional military, the focus on things like snipers and light infantry operations is drastically different from having to deal with a conventional land invasion by hundreds of tanks and a hundred thousand Russian troops steamrolling over the border. Plus the yuge advantage Russia has in Air Force assets as well which is something Ukraine hasn't focused on.

So, this an unconfirmed rumour so take this with a grain of salt, but this friend of mine is that they commuting the narrative on COVID to get ready for what's gonna happen in Ukraine. That's what why in Italy they are likely going to extend the emergency until 31st of December.
