What If? A Machine meant to directly upload information into someone's brain in a Photographic-Memory-Way had designs spread around the world?

Basically, put in a "file", and it will directly upload all the information into someone's brain

People can STILL question or realize the info's wrong and critique it, but they'll remember the "file" perfectly and can never really forget it

The "Files" can include things like "How to speak and write and understand Spanish", "the Mongolian invasions", "all of Robert E. Howard's books", "the entire bible", "how to do accounting and investing", the Mona Lisa etc

The "Files" are only texts and non-moving images. No videos or stuff with audio.

It can't teach a kid Spanish if the kid doesn't even know how to read and write first or something

Think of people's memory eventually being like a rapid version of a kindle or computer

NO HORRIBLE SIDE-EFFECTS

I imagine this would be perfect for something like education. I mean this would cut down extensively on class time I have to imagine, and allow people to go into the workforce a lot more easily.

Until there aren’t enough jobs for something, until new jobs are created by guys who are experts or already built up the capital

Most people will probably end up in “blue-collar”
jobs still though, but they might do other stuff in their spare time in a way to get money

Though if you have to constantly make pauses to look up the info, it’s not exactly an ingrained skill

The way tests are made would change - you don't need to check memorization of a subject; the only thing that needs to be tested is how to apply learned knowledge(that is, problem-solving skills).

Honestly that’s a better show of how smart someone is

And also a possible show as to whether or not they’re actually trying to teach you anything

I still remember my Calculus class

Weirdly enough pretty much NO ONE passed the tests because while they taught people how to do all the equations, the guys in college had the weird AF idea to make the test questions barely look anything like what’s being taught and kept on saying it was simple afterwards even if the majority of people failed.....turned out you essentially have to make new equations....they can’t expect creativity when they don’t encourage it or don’t say they expect it to begin with

My experience with the way Calculus is taught(I'm a mechanical engineer), is that there are two other objectives(as well as the obvious one of teaching you Calculus):

- It is supposed to teach you to go out and do research on what you're covering on classes, merely relying on what you're given isn't enough;

- It is supposed to weed out those incapable(or unwilling) of doing the above. Such people are not suited to be engineers, and will, at best, be mediocre ones.

It would be the end of Public School, Private School and Colleges forever. Who needs schools when the data can be dumped directly into your brain.

My tutor for Calculus who had old test papers the whole time somehow never got the whole innovation thing and kept telling me that its so simple for months nonstop.....even when I couldn’t answer even a single one of those test questions she gave for practice

What about “prestige”?

What finally convinced them there was something wrong with their testing methods?

But how are idiots gonna give a subtle “I’m better/smarter/more cultured/more urbane than you” feel?

Nothing

My parents and siblings kept shouting and demeaning me and saying I was just lazy the whole time

I was gonna have to repeat that one class that I would definitely motherfucking fail again and again, because my teachers in my college are pretty dense idiots even when its obvious barely anyone can understand what they’re trying to teach

My EC101 teacher had to give bonus points for everyone to pass with at least a D because on average she was pretty horrible at actually teaching in class

You might have had the same problem that we had on my university: Calculus classes were given by mathematicians. This has two problems:

- A doctor in mathematics isn't necessarily a good teacher, despite being extremely well-versed in the subject;

- What is obvious/simple for a doctor, master or even a graduate mathematician isn't obvious for a freshman/sophomore engineering student. I had a teacher for what was called Calculus IV on my University(multi-variable differential equations, basically). He was an attentive, patient teacher - you could go on and tell him 'I didn't understand', and he would try to explain it to you, no matter how many times you asked - his tests were also frightfully difficult, because what was simple for that nerd was extremely hard for mere mortals.

I think both of the above were well-known to the University management, but since it helped engender a situation where the students had to do research on their own just to keep on with the subject(and thus fulfilling the objectives mentioned on my previous post), it was ignored. Other courses that had Calculus classes(Economics, Business Management) had teachers from their own departments, and classes were considerably easier than the ones in Engineering.

My class was just said to be an Introduction to Calculus

Neither the school nor the teacher ever really encouraged researching on your own, well I tried learning on my own, but somehow all I got online was the same thing of people saying its simple and only showing regular calculus problems instead of what I kept saying would require innovation or out-of-the-box thinking

But yeah, point there, being skilled or good with a topic doesn’t make you good at teaching it

My teacher taught the basic equations and showed the simple problems before giving us the tests

It's also possible that what you had trouble with was simple, but for whatever reason, you simply don't get it(happened to me in Calculus as well - 4 months trying to understand one thing, and suddenly, 2 days before the final exam, I looked at it for 5 minutes and got it. Closest thing to an epiphany I've ever had - and some 24 years later, I barely remember what I didn't understand and don't know why I didn't get it. Go figure). In this case, yes, you're going to get this kind of answer, as frustrating as it may be.

In-Hindsight, I think “problem solving skills” will be the most sought after

If you can’t adapt and innovate and/or think(really)fast, then it won’t matter if you memorized the entirety of “How to write for dummies”

Even more if you have personality problems that would keep you from acknowledging some things
