Doesn't pass the smell test. The GOP needs to have an official position on the matter, and "abortion is wrong and immortal, it destroys an innocent human life.....but I guess cali can turn thier state into a baby abattoir if they want" was not going to fly. Graham's bill was still an ugly comprise, but it was wholly in line with global norms and people's expressed preferences in US polling.
Posobiec and Kirk are both very Trumpy, and given parroting Trump's claims is strongly correlated to losing a winnable election, they're just seizing on Graham's dead in the water proposal to distract from the real issue, which media matters is obviously willing to signal boost since thry want Trump to keep being a milestone and don't want the GOP to put out a counter to the dems radical and unpopular abortion agenda.
It can be possible for more than one thing to be true at the same time.
It can be true Trump is a millstone around the neck of the movement he started and the cause he claims to champion.
It can also be true pushing that bill so soon after Dobbs was the GOP getting greedy; smart move would have been to defer to the states, at least till after the midterms.
This is what I mean about the GOP being incompetent; it gets a long awaited win, and then instead of keeping in mind a looming midterms election, they decided they had to go full bore, there and then, without taking time t gauge how best to use the victory in SCOTUS.
Though it is all moot now, because with this election going the way it did, it shows that RINOs are more likely to win than MAGA, because it turns out 2016 was a fluke and Hillary was just that unlikable, not because Trump is the new King of the Right. Most of the good he did in his time in office has been washed away, with only SCOTUS/judicial picks maybe being a lasting legacy. Which isn't bad, but is such a small part of what Trump tried to do.
However Trump turned out to be closer to...I'm not going to sugar coat this, he turned out to be basically Frank Burns from MASH, only with less self-control and even more narcissism and shooting himself/other's in the feet.
I wanted to believe he was what all the meme's and die-hard supporters thought Trump was, I supported him through a bunch of donations of money I needed because his campaign used emotionally manipulative language in many email and sometimes downright shady shit like the 'auto-selected recurring/split/bonus donations that you have to opt out of every time you donate' in donation requests. It is because of Trump's campaign I am never donating to another political candidate; I donated to Bernie in 2016 because I was a Dem who hated Hillary and thought Bernie was the least likely to purposefully screw over the nation for personal gain. I vary Gary Johnson, not Trump, in 2016, and yet the campaign emails acted like I'd been there from the beginning. They also didn't seem to cross-check email vs text campaigns, which would bombard me with different requests multiple times a day, even if I'd already donated a little that day.
I overlooked Trump's personality and history because of his politics and the potential I thought was in him. What I got was someone who didn't know how not to respond to trolls and who was effectively surrounded by backstabbers because the establish GOP hated him; I am very sure many 'leaks' came from Pence's office.
