This is an admition of weakness, if they cant find an easy replacement in their back bench then just how weak is the democratic party?
More likely it's not a lack of potential replacements but rather a lack of ability to get Feinstein out of the seat. Hard to say if it's just that clinging to power is the last thing to go in a politician's mind, or if the people around her are exacerbating the situation.

I mean fuck's sake, it's California. Huge state with a huge Democratic Party that's been in power for decades. It would indeed be quite an indictment of them if they couldn't find a replacement, but I think the knife-fighting between relatively prominent Democrats over who gets to run for her seat in the general election argues against that take.
