They can put another warm body in her seat easily enough, it's the decades of gathered favors owed, blackmail material, and "I'll vote for your project if you vote for mine" deals that would be lost.

Very possible, but keeping the illusion that she's still in charge will let them milk it just a little longer.

Plus, she could probably do a lot of damage if she objects to being removed from power, and decides to retaliate.

More likely it's not a lack of potential replacements but rather a lack of ability to get Feinstein out of the seat. Hard to say if it's just that clinging to power is the last thing to go in a politician's mind, or if the people around her are exacerbating the situation.

I mean fuck's sake, it's California. Huge state with a huge Democratic Party that's been in power for decades. It would indeed be quite an indictment of them if they couldn't find a replacement, but I think the knife-fighting between relatively prominent Democrats over who gets to run for her seat in the general election argues against that take.
