That Women's Marathon happened a few days ago but it had some neat stories... beyond the fact that two Kenyans won it as expected. :p

The third place winner who earned Bronze was American Molly Seidel... who was running in the Olympics in what was only her third official marathon. Her first marathon was apparently an Olympic qualifier and while Molly is a very experienced long distance runner, most of her background is in cross country running and not marathon running. This is apparently just the third American to actually manage to medal in the Women's Marathon and the first since 2004.

The other neat story that popped up is that the 10th place finisher was from an Irish born-Australian 44 year old named Sinead Diver who didn't actually start participating in athletics until the age of 33.

I saw the end of that race. You have to give it to those runners. They maintained a pace that I can barely keep for one mile let alone over 20.

But you could see the sweat and how the heat was effecting them even with a location change. Overall a great race.

Brazil ended its participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with 21 medals overall(new record), those being 7 gold medals(tied current record, established on the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics), 6 silver medals, 8 bronze medals. The Brazilian delegation ended up in 12th place(new record) in the medal scoreboard. All in all, a very successful participation, although, there were a few things that didn't go as planned.

Afghanistan's 23 year old Tae Kwon Do Paralympian Zakia Khudadadi is making a plea for her to be able to participate in the Tokto Paralympic Games but she's currently stuck in Herat which of course was overrun by the Taliban recently and has been trapped in her house with extended family, unable to shop for basic necessities, much less train and can't leave the house unless accompanied by 'security.'
