E.g. in 1948 Coca-Cola and Pepsi were still sweetened with sugar cane sugar ...

They actually still do that with the glass cokes. Didn't learn that until recently. Always wondered why they tasted better.

Those cokes are diabetes in a bottle trust me on this. My first experience with Coca-Cola was with the glass bottle cokes and you literally tasted the sugar in the drink.
It's either that or Aspartame and High Fructose Forn syrup. The former is cancer and the later has no real benefits over cane sugar.

Oh, yes! Weaning myself off my +2 litres of Coke a day habit (plus some mild drugs) brought my sugar down from 350 to 150 :)

I thought that the main benefit of HFCS were votes from farming States? From having found some use for the glut of maize grown with subsidies?

What professional sport teams did UT USA lose? Top of Mind I'd say that Red Wings in the NHL and Pistons in the NBA - anything else?

There are benefits from using High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), but those benefits are 1)lower cost and 2)easier handling due to being able to pump HFCS around.

On AH-com there's a thread launched for this. The 1948 city (with fudged, yet unrevealed city limits) replaces the 2014 version.
IMO the OP gives off strong pink fluffy unicorns dancing on rainbows vibes concerning the city's prospects, expecting the 1948 city to thrive in 2014.
I expect the city to be bankrupt inside 6 months if not earlier, as the car assembling factories will be closed once all in-situ parts have been used up - so, a week? After that almost the whole working population goes on the dole as the entire supply chains for the DT cars gone, not to mention that all tooling in all local factories belongs in a museum and not much of what they can make (cars definitely not!) meets any UT safety or environment standards.
Although I expect car collectors to pay top Dollar for the cars the Big Three does manage to churn out during that hypothetical week :)
What do you think? Detroit thrives - maybe as a theme park tourist attraction - or does it become a ghost town?

I suspect that people from 1948 Detroit would aggressively push to keep their restrictive covenants in this TL after they would see what the Great Migration would have done to the other large Northern US cities by 2014. Meanwhile, if 2014 Detroit appears in 1948, that might be enough to push the US Supreme Court to rule differently in Shelley v. Kraemer. Thus, racially restrictive covenants, or some variation of them, might remain legal in regards to housing.

Possibly. Although the Great Migration is only part of the negrification etc. The list is AFAIK quite long and US members will know more :)
Still, the abolishment of racial covenants in a 2014->1948 scenario indeed may be delayed by a decade or two.
As to racial issues - the original thread has the 2014 National Guard move in, with only some grumbling and heckling about "nigger and spic invasion". Grumbling and insults only? In a city which barely five years previously had race riots? No rocks thrown?

How else did the "Negrification" of the Northern US occur? AFAIK, the Great Migration was the main part of it. There were few blacks in the Northern US in 1910, after all.

And re: racially restrictive covenants: I suspect that Yeah, either they would be kept or some other equally effective alternative to them would be found. For instance, perhaps doing what Oak Park, Illinois does and being very selective about which blacks move into its neighborhood:

Not very fair to working-class blacks, no doubt, but it did help keep Oak Park significantly more livable and significantly less homicidal than neighboring areas such as Austin.

Great Migration need not lead to white flight

Once crime would have skyrocketed, though, white flight was pretty much inevitable. Prevent skyrocketing crime rates, and you could possibly avoid a large part of the white flight. Living in areas with large black populations would be more appealing without the sky-high crime rates since then it would just mean more jazz and soul food lol! :D
