    There are vegan-ok sources of enzymes similar to rennet. The sane vegans draw the line at dead vertebrates and shellfish on the dinnertable. The truly batshit crazy ones think harvesting natural sea sponges (yes, they're animals) is just as bad as murder. They can't be reasoned with.

    One of my brothers-in-law has an '08 Koenigsegg. It has a 245mph+ top speed and is basically a street-legal LeMans racecar which would need to be de-tuned to be race legal. It's not even close to being that fussy. He knows how to maintain it without having to ship it to Sweden for something...

    The problem with attempting to nationalize a disfunctional industry in the US is all the people who will scream "that's socialism/communism!" and "Muh Freedumbs!" in bitter opposition. Plus, the regulatory framework meant to protect against abuses will invariably be used to quash alternatives.
