Which modern roads? Different roads are built to different quality, and exist in different climate areas, that subject them to different levels of corrosion. Have a look at some of the roads in the Southwest USA that aren't subject to regular heavy truck traffic. See how well they're holding up.

This looks like a PR move to me. 'Yes, keep accusing me of anti-semitism while I meet with the President and religious leaders of Israel.'

Elon is not as good as we'd hoped. He is still worlds better than what was before him.

    Block Twitter/X in Europe.

That's an interesting move. I wonder how it'll work out.

Sounds like Twitter is going to block service in Australia pretty soon.

Can you give me a source or a cite on the 80% in 5 cities? That's roughly in line with what I've seen, and I'd like to use those kinds of numbers in debates in the future.

Such an enemy speaks well of his character.

It could easily be just another round of 'I'm going to use this to find more bots to ban,' with a second poll after bot-banning occurs. Or it could be a genuine mistake. *shrug.*

What I'm curious about this, is whether he's already got an intended replacement lined up, and if this is purely a PR move. Because remember, even if he steps down as CEO, he's still the owner. It's still his show, and he can do what he wants with it. It'd be interesting to know.

It's not as bad as that. Really dedicated OSINT types can go onto other platforms for things that they have good reason to post urgently, and Twitter for the wider audience hours later.

He was legit for a while, but he also inevitably had a meltdown because of all the contradictory things he was being. It's a shame he hasn't managed to come back together as someone coherent and constructive.

And the mod just said no, so no.

Heavy concur here. We do not need yet another thread over-run with the same people repeating the same arguments to each other over that issue. I don't want to see another bloody post about it on here.

Is it what we would have liked? No. Is it better than it was? Yes.

The crux of the issue is how many people are actually necessary to run Twitter? And, bluntly put, I have a hard time imagining there's enough work for a thousand people, much less seven and a half. How many people do you need writing the code? It's a stripped down forum-board. One person...

Health insurance is a blight upon the world. I don't agree with the people here claiming the excessive benefits at Twitter are socialism; they're just that, excessive benefits, and excessive only because how apparently low-productivity so many employees were. If I had employees who were...

Two things: 1. The current problem is not the concept, it's the application. It is clearly too easy to become verified, thus all the fraudulent accounts. 2. Destroying the socially-elite status of 'blue checkmark mafia' is a good thing.

The 'total monopoly' ship has already sailed. Alternate platforms in general aren't just going to up and fold, even if Twitter becomes as free as it was supposed to be originally. A few tiny ones may fold, but things like Gab that have a decent user-base will just keep on trucking. The most...
