I wasn't talking about them. I was talking about how they use altruism of other people to push their own agenda.

That may be partly correct, but it has few issues. First, genetic predisposition is only an element of anything. Yes, it matters, but so does culture, education, food and so on. Second, altruism can easily be turned towards evil. That is literally what Communism but especially progressivism...

I disagree. With the exception of Russia, every European country that was ever Communist is now less Communist that every Western country that never was Communist. Poland e.g. has had experience with Communism that it doesn't want to repeat. As for the Western world, it wasn't just "in recent...

Of course, but that doesn't mean that certain elements within the US will not try to use that support to push the Woke agenda through. That is my main fear regarding the US (and especially EU, which already is doing precisely that).

Of course - Russia is a more immediate threat, and a more traditional threat.

They do make such mistakes - remember Afghanistan? Fact is, decision makers like to forget how bloody and messy war is. Everybody likes to believe they will get equivalent of US 2003 campaign against Iraq... when in fact that was not so much won by the US as it was lost by Iraq.

Yeah, no. Only an idiot would accept that. That is literally Plan Z4 all over again - just a way of allowing occupation without it appearing like an occupation.

Eh... on one hand, DW is a leftist shill propaganda newspaper, but on the flip side, Putin did indicate (and perhaps even outright state) that he saw disbandment of the Soviet Union as a mistake: https://historyandwar.org/2022/03/20/causes-of-war-in-ukraine/ If the above is correct, he...

It was not an excuse, it was a fact. And Inquisition was damn sight more humane than the alternative (or indeed than what the Muslim administration often was).

Spanish Inquisition a) was nowhere as brutal as memed (even if it was extraordinarily brutal by Catholic Inquisition standards, actual temporal / secular government was far more brutal still), and b) was bloody well justified in its actions, considering how many Muslims fake-converted during the...

Catholic Church considered witches and witch hunts to be superstitious bullshit, as @ATP explained. Didn't stop people from doing it anyway, but the Church never approved. Still, some 90% of witches were killed in the Protestant countries, so disapproval did have effect.

I'd say it is probably a combination of the two. That, and perhaps also the fact that Dalmatia was hit rather badly by a number of natural disasters (such as grapevine diseases) during the Austrian rule, leading to mass emmigration.

Yeah, they do. I'm not sure why Dalmatia is that badly off, but other than that, is is obvious which areas were Ottoman from 18th to 20th centurieas and which were not.

Keep in mind that Austria-Hungary only had Bosnia for some ten years, after literal centuries of the Ottoman rule. "Annexation" of 1878. was merely military occupation. And yes, Slovenia is better off than Croatia, but you can see a very clear border between Austro-Hungarian areas and those that...

For Croatia at least, Hungarians were major assholes, but Croatia did have a degree of independence which allowed it to develop. I mean, look at the map I provided in the linked article: If Hungary was so bad, Croatia would not (alongside Slovenia) be one if primary drivers of the economic...

If memory serves me, a lot of Poles wanted Austria-Hungary back post-Polish independence. And definitely after Germany and USSR partitioned Poland for the n-th time. Life in Croatia during Austria-Hungary was definitely better than during either of Yugoslavias.

Difference is that United States nowadays tend to use language of rather lofty principles ("freedom", "democracy" and so on) to justify their involvement in stuff. Sure, support Ukraine, but at least be honest why. Because if you lie to other people, and even to yourselves, as to why you are...
