Imperium of Man vs Galactic Empire

No, it wouldn't be. Not a reasonable (as in, "not deliberately trolling") minimum. We know there are 5 Segmentae in total. Imperial Navy has 29 different cruiser classes of all types that we know of (grand, battle, line, light). 600 Lunars in one Segmentum would require at at least half the...

United States Why are "squatter's rights" a thing?

Decadence, corruption and moral decay started basically from the top, though. And Eastern Empire continued to exist until 1453, so it is quite clear that whatever moral decay they were facing was nowhere as problematic as what we are facing today. Just as you are the subject of the Government...

United States Why are "squatter's rights" a thing?

Roman Empire however didn't rely solely on "might makes right". It lasted for as long as it did because it basically didn't give a shit about what its subjects did with their lives so long as taxes arrived on time and no rebellions cropped up.

United States Why are "squatter's rights" a thing?

True. In the end however, going to either extreme is lethally stupid. You always have to prepare for invasion by people who do believe in the "might makes right" philosophy. And that means investing in might.

United States Why are "squatter's rights" a thing?

Basques, perhaps, and maybe the native Irish, Welsh and Scots. But that depends on definition of "native". In fact, genetically speaking, majority of native populations of European countries are truly native - as in, "we had been here since we came as Cromagnons and murdered Neandarthals" level...

What if Pacific Rim had a sequel

So as everybody knows, Pacific Rim never had a sequel. But on the off chance it did, and you were in charge of it, what would you like to see? For me, I'd like something like the Pacific Rim: The Black. After all, if the aliens were so set on conquering the Earth, why didn't they build another...

Food Pyramid Is A Pyramid Scam (or how USDA poisons you)

Low fat diet is literally genocide: Turns out, "bacon and eggs" breakfast is far healthier than any USDA recommendations.

United States Why are "squatter's rights" a thing?

Not in the Homo Sapiens history. All areas that Homo Sapiens had expanded to (except Arctic circle, perhaps) there used to be other hominids before us. So... Inuits, perhaps. Other than them, answer to your question is a clear NO.

Imperium of Man vs Galactic Empire

As I said: even if you treat Lunar class as an exceptional outlier, you still cannot really go below 17 000 cruisers and 250 000 starships. And it is not stated one way or another whether the Lunar class is "representative" or an "exceptional outlier". But so long as it is not stated or implied...

Imperium of Man vs Galactic Empire

I actually minimized the number of cruisers. Segmentum Obscurus is relatively the most fortified Segmentum, but it is not the largest one. Further, I only counted major cruiser classes we know of. And even absolute minimum number of ships (200 worlds per sector, 50 ships per sector) still...

Imperium of Man vs Galactic Empire

Production numbers are estimates from canon information, specifically what I noted here: Battlefleet Gothic notes that Imperial Heavy Cruiser takes between three and 11 years to produce, so "a decade" I noted above is really the upper end of the estimate. Even if we assume that it is 11 years...

Imperium of Man vs Galactic Empire

It is only the highest-end technology that they cannot replicate. Most of the massive ornate battleships are perfectly buildable. Problem is that we do not have any information on the actual production rate, though I attempted to give the best possible estimate...

Imperium of Man vs Galactic Empire

ICS calcs fly in the face of canon however, so the only question here is whether Battlefleet Gothic calcs are higher or lower than Star Wars canon calcs (as Battlefleet Gothic and other official 40k material also override any 40k novels or other media). As for Star Wars canon calcs, we have...

Imperium of Man vs Galactic Empire

Imperial Star Destroyers are basically battleships... fact that we see them used in movies to fulfill destroyer-like roles (chasing Milennium Falcon etc) is I believe because Lucas may have modelled them on modern destroyers, which fulfill battleship role in addition to that of a destroyer.

Imperium of Man vs Galactic Empire

I don't think that is really the case. This is also supported by novelizations where "tens of thousands" of systems joined the Separatists, and Republic has population numbering in the trillions. Using EU for information about Star Wars is kinda like using books for information about the...

Movies Starship Troopers: The bugs did nothing wrong

Well, it is true that differences were far less than what some people would have you believe... it was a war essentially of alliance of lesser evil and greatest evil against alliance of middle evil and great evil. World War II basically created modern "good vs evil" narrative, but the last...

Movies Starship Troopers: The bugs did nothing wrong

Considering what Communists and other socialists did in the 1918 - 1930 period, nobody sane would have defended them even had Tyranids come to Earth. It is easy to be a general after the battle, but back in 1930s nobody knew how evil Nazis would turn out to be... mostly because nobody had read...

Imperium of Man vs Galactic Empire

Depends on the Guard unit. Many of the Imperial Guard regiments (e.g. Cadian Kasrkin, Imperial Guard Stormtroopers) would be more than a match for Empire's Stormtroopers. And both Imperium and the Empire are capable of orbital bombardment, so it is a tie there.
