Maybe someone asked before, I don't know, but I'm wondering if at some point of the future we would see a scientist Tiger. They are as intelligent as a human (if not more). Could be interesting seeing a tiger egghead (don't dare to call him/her that) doing the math for K-F jumps or something like that.

Has not happened yet no. But given that there are Security Grifftigers at the Zoo and Sekhmet is Lord High Inquisitor from what i picked up from the chapter where Jackie had the idiot hanged for falsely swearing fealty to her, I expect that it is only a matter of time before there are also scientist Grifftigers.

A View From the Ice Part 6

The weather had eased off recently enough to allow people to go outside without worry of losing limbs to frostbite almost instantly from the windchill alone. Michal walked along the line of the Armia Krajowa all lying in the snow with each man and woman who had the sleek and dangerous-looking M2954.

He and his people had spent the last few weeks since they got them learning every part of this marvellous new weapons system, how to field strip, clean it and deal with various problems that wouldn't require an armourer to deal with.

He wanted his people to be familiar with their primary rifle before they moved onto things like Man-Pack PPCs, support lasers and SRM launchers for the support teams. They would all be riflemen before anything else and would know their weapon like they knew their loved ones.

He'd gotten extensive practice with it from the AFGR troopers before they had been issued to the Armia Krajowa and was already skilled with the use of the M2954. He now walked along the line of the prone forms as the sent beams downrange. Some of them cursed as their beams went wide as they instinctually compensated for the nonexistent recoil.

They were getting good though as he watched one of their younger comrades fire.

He stopped behind Starszy Szeregowy and took out his binoculars as he watched her hit the target dead centre every time. He made a mental note to see about having her assigned to a Manpack PPC team.

"Good shooting," Michal said,

"Thank you, Sir," she said as he moved on.

He looked forward to when they were fully familiar with their new weapons and it would make the whole Armia Krajowa a lot more dangerous. Hell, he wished he could send half of the equipment they had at Camp Mocny back to the Armia Krajowa on Nowa Warszawa; it would be a major boon to those who were still fighting there.

He kept walking along the line thinking back to his old home and to Misha when he finished for a day.

---

Old Leopold sat at his desk. Since he had become the head of their little council he had barely any rest. He had been talking with several engineers from the Grifs Department of Mega Engineering on this Arcology they wanted to build for them.

The Council had held a brief debate with the Sejm and it had been quickly agreed to. Though they had asked to be kept informed and assist in the design to some degree since they would be living in this new home after all.

It had been agreed to and one of their people who had been an architect had been assigned to be a contact with the government for the Dome team. He was also assisting in some of the architectural design which reminded him of some of the older parts of Nowa Warszawa which were supposedly based on that of Warsaw back on the old homeworld.

He looked over to his son, "So what do you think of all this?" He asked.

"I think that this Arcology," said Young Leopold, "is an interesting idea, though some people have some doubts about it."

"Oh?" said Old Leopold

"Some worry that we are depending too much on Griffin's Roost," Young Leopold said, "I am thankful to them for making sure we didn't die in the snow but some people are becoming concerned they are slowly devouring us."

"I can understand that my son," Old Leopold said, "however they have forced nothing on us and did help us and have respected our traditions and rights of our government. I am willing to trust them until they give us a reason not to and so far they have proven to be honourable in their dealings with us."

"Yes Father," Young Leopold said.

There is an easy solution for that, it's called Commonwealth of Both Nations.

In English called Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, but in Polish "Rzeczpospolita Obojga Narodów" - literally Commonwealth of Both Nations.

I'd say the disparity in both power and population makes this rather unlikely. In fact, while not a popular move, I'd imagine, I'd suggest we begin moving some of our own population to Novy Gdasnk as colonists.

Turn 31 - Black House Will Rock

You’ve been making sure to get your recommended daily allowance of grandson time, which incidentally gives your son and daughter-in-law some time to actually sleep. You’ll wait a few years before starting to get your right and proper revenge for midnight feedings and being pooped on by your little boy.

You’ve decided that the new factory complex will be dedicated to the Cadet mech, to provide training platforms for the Aerie. The facility itself is extremely impressive and it doesn’t take long for it to be ready to produce the new mechs in quantity.

The new complex, along with the rest of the underground infrastructure, have a somewhat unexpected side effect. Economic activity on Capricorn starts to boom as tourists flock to see the wonder, with small towns catering to the tourist trade springing up in underground caverns throughout the continent. (QM Note - +10% GDP this turn)

You get to see a demonstration of the new Jaguar MBT. It’s only a bit smaller than the Lion but has a lean, predatory look to it. The chiseled and sculpted turret housing the gauss rifle and Enhanced ER PPC looks lethal, and the vertically set launch tubes for the LRM is rather innovative. You hear that maintenance crews are already singing the tank's praises as evidently it requires less man-hours than the much lighter tank it is replacing.

Of course, to meet the terms of the contract with the Tank Works will require upgrading the Ferro-Fibrous forges significantly, but that would be needed in any event eventually.

The economy has seen a few minor hiccups but in general is doing quite well so far this year, with sustained economic growth in most, if not all, sectors of the economy. The settlers on Nowy Gdansk seem to be doing well enough, with the new hospital and schools being extremely welcome. There are concerns that once the immediate needs of building the essentials are finished, however, that there are very few manufacturing or mineral extraction projects in play to employ the freed slaves.

The Chamber of Delegates is being rather unreasonable, in concert with a few of the more avaricious and less ethical corporations in Griffsport they are proposing nothing less than economic imperialism, sending waves of settlers to the planet, displacing the locals into what would amount to slums on the edges, and exploiting the place for all it’s worth.

The Senate is standing foursquare against that proposal, instead discussing economic incentives for Griffin’s Roost firms to invest in partnerships with the locals on Nowy Gdansk. Any emigration to the planet would be measured and controlled in order to avoid diluting the local culture and disenfranchising the people who already are there and, most importantly, would be under the control and guidance of the locals rather than outsiders.

Notably the Eldest is firmly in favor of the Senate plan, and has taken to growling at Delegates who pass within line of sight. There are enough Delegates who are willing to follow your lead that, if you wished, you can force the entire chamber in line. Moreover, so long as you can justify it on the grounds of National Security, you can pretty much dictate what you please and both chambers will just have to lump it since neither has enough influence to stop you.

[] Back the Chamber of Delegates. Might piss the Poles off, but right now they aren’t contributing much at all and you need the resources and income of a settled planet more than you need their contributions. +25 support in the Chamber of Delegates, +200% POP Growth on Nowy Gdansk for next 10 years, -1% POP Growth on Griffin’s Roost for next 10 years, +600% GDP growth on Nowy Gdansk for next 10 years, -1% GDP growth on Griffin’s Roost for next 10 years, -25 Approval, -50 Approval Change, loss of ‘the Just’ title, +2 Influence Chamber of Delegates, -1 Influence Senate.

[] Back the Senate plan. Much slower and will take decades to really pay off, but slow and steady wins the race… plus you wouldn’t be a deal-breaking imperialist -5% support in the Chamber of Delegates, +5% support in the Senate, +10% POP Growth on Nowy Gdansk per year for the next 20 years, +10% GDP growth on Nowy Gdansk per year for next 20 years, +5 Rating Change on Nowy Gdansk, +5 Approval, +1 Political, +1 Influence Senate, -1 Influence Chamber of Delegates.

You are seriously considering whether or not folding the old Parliament directly into the new Imperial Parliament was a particularly wise decision, but elections are next year, hopefully most of the idiots can be voted out and replaced with those who aren’t in the hip pockets of people you really wish could have been implicated in something, anything, illegal.

Sometimes following the concept of rule of law is difficult, but it’s usually worth it in the end.

You know that you are going to have to give a speech about your decision, the question is how to do it. Jake has a few options for you…

Location:

[] Give it from Nowy Gdansk as part of reviewing the Home Army and personally meeting the leadership there.

[] Give it from your office in a televised speech broadcast system wide.

[] Call a joint session of Parliament and address them directly.

Tone:

[] Calm, cool, measured

[] Passionate, fiery

[] Other (write-in)

We're going to be running really short of cash for the next 4 turns but research into K-F theory to build our own JumpShips is vital for our long-term survival.

There are some benefits for unrestricted immigration, but we need "the Just" (rerolls!). Senate appears to be agreeing to fall back in line, Delegates losing influence will give us more time to fix that relationship.

Also, keep in mind the eventual future goal of absorbing New Sekigahara/Nowa Warszawa. Deal breaking now will definitely make doing this peacefully a lot harder.

As for the speech... no idea yet, I'll wait for someone to actually come up with an idea.

Battletech has enough of "welcome your new overlord, same as the old one" as it is...

Personally I don’t want to annoy the ex-Freedom fighters who spent the last few year resitting the dracs with nothing more the stubbornness and inginuity.

Both plans have boneheaded elements, but the Senate plan is a receipe for long-term disaster, demographics-wise. If there's one thing you don't want it's to create ethnic enclaves and give them control over the flow of who they let in and who not. It's our system, and no matter the valiant fight the Poles put up against the Dragon, they are only alive right now because of our help an support. What we need is to integrate them, the American way, not give them special rights to maintain their status. Lets take this path to the extreme end, shall we? Because bad shit always happens in BTech when the going is good. 30 years down the line we come down on Novy Warszawa and throw out the Dragon with fire and brimstone, liberate them, and then what? Say they want to stay independent, and all of sudden there's a planet full of their own countrymen on our doorstep thinking "Hey, know what? Let's take this place back under the fold of to the motherland!" Which they theoretically could, since they'd control their demographic makeup, including majority Pole formations and units.

No, even though it's less than optimal:

So essentially you want to Ghettoise people who have experience fighting a guerrilla war at a lower tech level and who have been causing dracs major trouble locally to the point they are diverting resources to try and keep them in check. The same people we just gave weapons to so they can defend themselves, you do realise for short term gains we are asking for major long term troubles due to the greed of the chamber of delegates.

This would also be a major hit with our own people as well as the Poles since they would see us acting exactly like the Dracs did when they came sweeping into this sector of space. We also have to consider that we have to intergrate their home world in the future which will be easier if we don’t marginalise the Poles in our own systeam. We also need to try and persuade our people to move from a tropical paradise how the hell are we going to get them to move an ice ball?

Do you want to engineer a potential Northern Ireland situation right here because this is what is going to happen in the long term.
