The open letter was signed by twenty ex-generals, over a hundred other senior officers and over a thousand Military personnel of lower ranks. It seems to of been signed by mostly former military personnel.

Daily Express said:
“Even in retirement, we remain soldiers of France and cannot in the present circumstances remain indifferent to the fate of our beautiful country”.

They claimed France was “disintegrating with the Islamists of the hordes of the banlieue [suburbs] who are detaching large parts of the nation and turning them into territory subject to dogmas contrary to our constitution”.

...

In a grim comment, the letter then warned the country would “explode” into civil war if ‘nothing was done”.

Too soon to say, my guess is the government will try to have them removed from all military rooster for violating military neutrality and have Le pen arrested or disqualified from the presidential election .
At least, the soldiers won’t have pension anymore.
How is Le Pen involved in this?

Their mistake was in thinking that words would change anything; at this point, I don't think anything short of a violent coup can save any part of Europe, and even that would be a long shot.

You've hit the jackpot on the 2nd part.
Europe has been almost completely afflicted with the leftist disease, aside from former communist nations who remember the nightmare.

Where now the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing?
Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing?
Where is the hand on the harpstring, and the red fire glowing?
Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing?
They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow;
The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow.
