EU Dutch Farmers Protest Megathread

They won, in the sense that they are the largest party in every province. But of course, in the Netherlands we have a multi-party system, so being the largest "merely" means that they got between 13% and 33% in every province, and all other parties got less than they did in every province.

In most cases, it'll be possible to cut them out by forming an establishment coalition. In the First Chamber (Dutch Senate), they will have 16 out of 75 seats. Given that other right-wing parties also have a few seats, this is almost enough to ensure that the governing coalition is struck lame... but not quite. The left-wing Labour/Green bloc has precisely enough votes to still prop up the coalition with tacit support. In return for this, they'll demand more left-wing policies.

If the Farmer and Burgher Movement can form right-wing coalitions in some provinces and lead a vocal opposition elsewhere, there may be another land-slide when the next elections take place for the Second Chamber (Dutch House of Representatives)... in 2025.

Until then, the establishment will do anything to prevent early elections, because if the government falls now, they'll lose spectacularly. The hope of the government, now, is that the opposition will lose momentum, so that come 2025, "the shne will have worn off", and the people will vote for the familiar establishment again. Going by past experience, this is a sadly realistic prospect. (But on the other hand, Premier Rutte has been in power for thirteen years now, and people are getting tired of his shit...)

External factors (like a new banking crisis) could do the trick, but as things stand now... the Dutch are a very "domesticated" people, highly averse to causing any drastic upsets. There will be no revolts here until it becomes the only alternative to literal starvation for a significant fraction of the populace. And we're very far from that point, still.

...But on the positive side: with almost all the votes finally counted, it seems the Farmer and Burgher Movement is getting an additional Senate seat, bringing their total to 17. This will be at the expense of D66. (That's the very incorrectly named "Democrats '66", i.e. the 'progressive elitist' party that is most ardent in trying to destroy the farmers; on the right, they are often called "Demons 666".) So that would be very satisfying. And if it does transpire, it also means that the government is most likely struck lame & will be unable to get legislation through the Senate.

Here’s to hoping. With everything else going on it’d be nice to have some good news.

Manufactured Food Crisis: 3,000 Farms to be Shut Down in the Netherlands

This is about control. You cannot smite the hand that feeds you, so if the government can regulate away farmers, then we rely on the government for our food...then we cannot be against the government, because they can take away the food. And keep in mind we are the consumers. The farmers are the producers. They will survive without us. We cannot survive without them. This is not just the farmers fight. It is ours too.

I'm not denying at all that these farm shutdowns are being done with bad intent, but "the government" cannot conjure food out of thin air. Government by itself produces nothing. Somebody somewhere has to be actually growing that food. And if the government can buy it from them, then normally so can you.

Not that this disproves your interpretation. Not at all. What you describing sounds to me like the ZANU-PF playbook in Zimbabwe. Communists wanting absolute power.
A Western journalist once asked a ZANU-PF guy what this "absolute power" actually meant, and said person, perhaps too stupid to not say the quiet part out loud, replied: "Absolute power is when the people are on their hands begging for a cup of maize, and you are the only one who can give it to them."

I will.

Where on Earth do you get the impression these halfwits have the intelligence or the ambition to pull off a Bond villain scheme like this? They're pencil pushers caught up in the environmentalist fad, hooked on the dopamine rush of appearing virtuous. So wrapped up in it, they haven't even thought of the consequences.

You think they're evil. I say they are far more dangerous than that.

The point of globalism is to redistribute shit from around the globe. You aren't going to drive down to whatever other country they've decided where the food is going to be grown to get your food for the week, especially if you're stuck in one of those "15-minute cities" that they have a hard-on for. Plus, I'm sure the food is meant to be made out of bugs, so the real aim here is to limit the availability of alternatives. Artificial scarcity, basically.

I will.

I'm pretty sure they're just evil. I'm sure we'll get to see more examples of this as the protests continue and the coalition fails to actually be able to do anything in spite of winning as many seats as they did.

Isn't globalism breaking down? I mean people looking more and more to their country to produce stuff?

It thankfully is.

The United states made it possible as a tactic to fight the cold war, now said cold war is over and more and more americans just are not willing to die so that europeans can have cheap gas and spit in their faces as thanks. Add to that an aging population which is the net result of their fear of over population and its a system that just cant sustain itself.

Honestly I see all of this ending with everyone retreating into tradition and never wanting anything like this ever again.

So....what happens if the Netherlands farmers just don't listen to the federal government? Like seriously are they going to arrest people en mass over a policy that's so unpopular that the government just got hammered in their senate elections over it?

My money increasingly bizarre alliances of various establishment parties until the populists have a majority in and of themselves. Then a whole lot of payback.

Assuming the populists win, yes. Which I hope to the Lord that they do. But that’s not my call to make.

And grifters.

Schwab certainly tries to look like a Bond villain cause he thinks it makes him look competent, but he is such a massive grifter that he even defrauds members of his own family.

Same goes for all the loud posers and sycophants that attend the WEF.

Conspiracies exist, but they are just banal fraud that either has to cover up the last big fuckup or to facilitate some grifting.

I mean, we already saw their police shoot at the tractors, as well as try to infiltrate the protestors and act as agent provocateurs. So, yeah, I can see their government sending in the jack-boots to kill or arrest them all, unless of course the farmers are successful at taking over the government.
