One of my relatives has Apple TV for some reason so I binged the first seven or eight episodes of Ted Lasso which is a sports comedy drama about a successful American College Football Coach getting a new job as the Head Manager of an English Premiere League Soccer/Football Team.

It stars Jason Sudeikis as the Coach, Ted Lasso and while I wasn't too interested in the premise off the show people kept saying it was pretty good.

Aaaaaand it was pretty good. And entertaining... and I kept wanting to watch more episodes. I'm not big on watching television series in general (unless they are completed and finished) and not much for comedies in general, but this was very entertaining. It was funny with very funny and warm and distinct characters... who had incremental and complex character arcs. And lots of interweaving storylines and character drama that was still easy to follow. And the humor wasn't overdone and came mostly organic. It's a very warm and heartfelt series without being narmy or too fake. It's nice seeing a show taking on some complex themes and heavy dramatic moments and treating them in a more positive and uplifting manner in overall tone instead of the depressive tear jerking drivel we tend to get. A main thrust of the show is people trying to be them best selves and trying to make others better which is great. It's very wholesome.

Very good comedy series, would recommend it.

Also saw the war movie Greyhound finally... and it was awesome as well.

So I finally wachted the last season of the Expanse. Overall a good ending even if they killed a main character for being Me too'ed.

But the last season did feel a bit rushed. It seemed like they had a couple seasons of plots left and crammed it all into the last season. Both the Gate travel plot and the war should have been entire seasons by themselves. Especially after they spent an entire season on random mine colony.

But at least it gave a decent ending and unlike Netflix they had more then one season to tell a story.

I also started SpyXFamily. It is a comedy anime that is pretty good. It takes place with two gremanish countires on the brink of war. A superspy n3eds a family for his mission to get information about the upcoming war. Cue a superspy getting a telepathic kid and an Assassin wife for the mission. This leads to funny hijinks as they all try to hide their secert identities and act normal.

Nothing deep or serious but fun to watch.

Watching Isaac Arthur's series. Have tuned into his stuff sporadically for years, though as usual, the finer points of the science and engineering he invokes go over my head.

In fact, I've also been thinking about creating a sci-fi universe of my own someday, and he's been a great source of ideas for me, both regarding the "internal physics" and the practical ramifications of certain technologies, social setups, and encounters with alien life.

Have also been tuning into Biblaridion's "Alien Biospheres" series, too. Again, I've watched bits and pieces of before, but he's thinking of posting Part 13 in June, so I'm just revisiting what he's outlined so far to refresh my memory.

I watched (was subjected to?) the Chip & Dale movie with some friends that they put on as a combination hate-watch from some and 'want-to-watch' from others...Both sides vaguely enjoyed it? It got 'okays' from the ones who wanted to see it, and rolling eyed 'it was exactly what I expected' from the hate-watch crowd (of which I probably belong).

It wasn't bad, per se I don't think? But just felt...unnecessary throughout. Like some Hollywood scriptwriter just watched that one famous movie about old-actor ennui (Birdman? I think?) and had his own serial-number filed-off riff on the same topic and then that got used as the basis for the script.

Ugly Sonic was amusing, as well as the blink and miss it 'Vote for Senator Butthead'...But other than that it just felt like 'content' for Disney Plus and, as mentioned, some scriptwriters fanfiction getting stuffed into whatever was handy.

In more optimistic and enjoyed watchery, however...

prinCZess went to see the new Top Gun with same aforementioned friends. It was amazingly enjoyable. Had some allusions and references of the old film without ever feeling hackneyed or overly pandering, took the characters to believable places, and was just all-around a great popcorn-flick. Somewhat unexpectedly a tissue-requiring movie, but still great.

On petty commentary: The studio did have the old flag-patch featuring the Republic of China flag on Maverick's jacket. I don't know if that got reshot at some point or if they're only doing the stand-in BS version in China (if it's even allowed to air in China, dunnow), but that satisfied me a bit.
Only semi-complaint is Maverick is fixing-up a P-51...And every time it was onscreen I couldn't help but wonder why the navy-brat flyboy wouldn't have tried to do a Navy WWII plane. I know the Corsair might not be quite as iconically Americana as the P-51 but...still....

Haven't seen the movie but doesn't Cruise own a P-51? OK After doing some online research.... Yes he does own a P-51 so I guess the one in the movie is his own bird so they didn't have to fork out money to use it.

Also.. Corsair, puhlease. He's an F6F Hellcat man. He did fly a Tomcat in Top Gun.

Had some time and was bored, and watched "Run, Hide, Fight." Last night. I actually like movies where the protagonist is trapped and has to struggle to survive. 'Die Hard, Dredd, ect'

Considering it was a politically motivated movie I expected it to be pretty bad, but to be honest? It wasn't as in your face as I expected. It had a few one of dialogue words from time to time, but they weren't really zingers or anything. Instead the movie... Made sense? Like, I could see most of it happening. It never really struck my suspension of disbelief, and while the first 10ish minutes were a bit boring as they set up, once the movie was going, it actually worked for me pretty well. The girl never gets into a fist fight with a boy and wins for example. The one time she gets into an actual fight, she gets absolutely wrecked. So... It was good. Entertaining. I enjoyed it.

That's the movie where a girl fights a group of school shooters, correct? Man, I can only imagine what the cops would've been portrayed like if it came out today.

I think it's a Daily Wire produced film.
Correct to both. Yeah I went into it thinking it was gonna be some Political piece, but it really wasn't. It was just... A movie about a girl going through shit, and then having to deal with a school shooting.

The cops are portrayed pretty well in this one actually. The only one that had a negative appearance, was actually the schools security guard. But even he wasn't evil, or anything. Just terrified for his life.

I saw Top Gun Maverick based solely on word of mouth because I honestly don't even know if I've ever seen the original Top Gun and couldn't really care too much about a sequel to a movie starring Tom Cruise. But people kept telling me it was pretty good so I went and saw the film.

And it was pretty good.

It wasn't anything amazing by any stretch of the word but it was definitely a quality film. Solid entertainment. Lots of exciting tension actually when it came to the flying and aerial maneuvers and performances and everything. The acting was top notch and there were some genuinely surprising moments of emotional depth and impact. The planes were great as well. Everything involving them. And in some scenes you could actually see Tom Cruise's actual height. Shocking I know.

Overall I would recommend the film. It was fun to watch and solid entertainment. And totally accessible and enjoyable to people like me who really weren't familiar with the original movie beyond pop culture osmosis.

Currently watching The Orville which is finally back for season 3. Still the best new Star Trek available.

I saw that was coming out but I may have to rewatch the frist two seasons first.

I do have to admit it is way better then STD and while Lower Decks can be funny it is not a true Trek show going more for humor then anything else.
