I think I have to point out that, despite what might be claimed in some quarters, audiences mostly liked The Force Awakens and to a lesser extent Rogue One. The Last Jedi was "merely" divisive (oh God, was it ever divisive), not universally hated. The only one of the new movies that actually flopped was Solo.

And as for Disney (or other studios, for that matter) buying tickets to inflate numbers; sounds plausible, but I'd demand absolutely solid evidence before I believed it. Otherwise, that claim is just an easy way to dismiss the financial success of a movie you dislike. *remembers attempts to explain away Captain Marvel's billion-dollar box office haul in that manner, based on basically zero evidence*

That's true, but then again the prequels were recieved better at the time of release than they are now as well. Initial impressions generally seem less reliable metrics compared to hindsight. I suspect that unless 9 absolutely knocks it out of the park, the ST as a whole won't really stand the test of time.

I feel like every movie that's even vaguely political or seen as political or championed as being some kind of watershed moment for [insert minority here] tends to accumulate a bunch of bullshit conspiracy theories. I think my favorite this far has been the "no, people didn't actually like Alita, they just said they did so they could attack captain marvel".

Quite possible; I half-expect the overall analysis of the sequel trilogy to be "well, that happened" once episode 9 is fully digested alongside 7 and 8. My comment was aimed more at the frankly clickbaity "Disney Star Wars sucks, nobody likes it" videos being treated as gospel.

Tell me about it. And when I see a movie get slagged not because of anything that's actually in it, but because of one of the principal actors being an ignorant loudmouth (you know, typical celebrity) or a bunch of bullshit spouted by the press, I'm just shaking my head in disbelief.

I went into all of the Disney movies with as open of a mind as possible. I enjoyed Rogue One and regard Solo with a shrug-and-a-meh.

I openly despise TFA as a soulless, sackless, cowardly capitulation by Disney, Kennedy, and Abrams. For all the prequels' many faults, they at least tried to take recurring Star Wars elements and reconfigure them in a new way while introducing new story elements. Execution left much to be desired, but it was bold and unique and had a compelling story.

TFA was a lazy, gutless rehash that cheapened everything that came before it.

TLJ at least attempted to do something new, even if often failed, in Rian's attempt to sUbVeRt ExPeCtAtIoNs. And it was dealt a shitty hand by Abrams in TFA. So despite the exceeding boringness of Canto Bight and the Space Chase, I'll watch TLJ before TFA any day.

So I was pretty apathetic about TROS until I found out Ian McDiarmid was back. Now I'm eager to see what they do with the Greatest Star Wars Villain Ever.
Bad news I'm afraid.

I would not be surprised if, when everything is said and done, the sequel trilogy is ultimately regarded as being of lower quality than the prequel trilogy.

I don't think the prequel trilogy is at all bad. Had some faceplants and made mistakes, and George Lucas should have had oversight. Even with its flaws, I think it was good, but people just didn't appreciate it for it was, rather than what they wanted it to be.

If nothing else, the sequel trilogy has at least inspired people to give the prequel trilogy a second chance.

Of course I would. Why wouldn’t I?
Well, that puts you above the channels shitting out those clickbait videos, anyway. I won't claim to have watched every video certain channels put out, but I have watched several and looked at their video pages. The times events failed to line up with their predictions, I don't recall them ever forthrightly admitting it afterwards.

Well I’m not him. Though even if he’s wrong I have little hope that The Rise Of Skywalker won’t be a dumpster fire of some sort.

I'm honestly not sure what the point of obessing over possibly-factual leaks and trailers like this even is. If the movie's trash, we'll find out when it comes out, what value is there in pouring over every trailer for clues and spending months grumbling about alleged plot points that might not even exist?

Fandoms going to fandom--what value is there in arguing over who the best waifu in anime is, or what Star Trek Captain is the best, or Female Space Marines 😝 .

That said, the explosion of internet 'criticism' and 'review' and the conspiracies/leaks/etc. discussion is somewhat ho-humming, especially with Star Wars. I think people saw how popular the Red Letter Media stuff on the prequels was and hopped aboard, and the new trilogy presented a bountiful field of fucks to harvest because dissatisfaction sells clicks more than satisfaction.

In other words, your old-man yelling at the damn kids on the lawn is showing! 😁

To a degree, that might already be the case? Even with fans?
Prequels, for all their failings, had a single director with a clear vision of things. He might've buggered execution in various ways, but the stuff hangs together. Jumping directors and writers between films as Disney did and with a seemingly much...looser...view of a storyline makes them already a bit whiplash-y and I think even folks who like them acknowledge that. Whether a conclusion can make up for that remains to be seen I suppose.

This is about the lore-breaking scene from TLJ, isn't it?
yes, because some people have posited that clearly there's counters to it and it only worked because FO Admiral dude is an idiot(somehow), without considering what the mere fact of the possibilty DOES to the REST of the setting even ignoring that Hyperpace Imapctors means everyone should be playing rocket tag.
