I just started playing Mechwarrior 5, and if it wasn't for my love for the setting I'd put it squarely in the 'Meh' - category. The missions feel small and uninspired so far, and the graphics could as well have been from a game published in 2014. I got some visual and environmental mods, but it's still a far shot away from some of the immersive environments that titles like Fallout New Vegas have been using for half a decade or longer by now. Enemy mechs more often than not have really dark color schemes that make them all homogenous, and at least so far I haven't really seen any distinct color schemes that vary between factions. What little I've done from the campaign also is decidedly uninspired. Worse, I think if it wasn't for the mods on Nexus I probably would have uninstalled the game after less than 4 hours playtime. Definately not something to buy at full price.

Even with mods the game, while having somewhat addictive combat - is so damn uninspired its nigh painful.

That's a shame. Especially the "Enemies have limited color-scheme" part. I get that they are a military thing, but you'd assume that plenty of mechwarriors have swagger and arrogance in spades, thus chose to paint their mech some bright color. I know I would.
It's a shame. There's so much you can do with the setting and lore. Vast quantities of individual diversity in the most positive way, different architectural styles, worlds, climates, gravities (!), weather systems. You'll find glimpses of that here and then in the game, and some mods help to partially remedy some weaknesses. Yet at the end of the day this game seems to be little more than a single player reskin of Mechwarrior Online, and that one was long in the tooth already by the time MW5 was released.

Canonically the various Mechwarrior groups absolutely do go for exotic color schemes and paint jobs.

On topic, I've gone back and given Angband another try. I was surprised how much it's changed in the five or so years since I last played, many new classes, entirely new spell lists, it's very different. I feel like it's a bit more monty haul though, not nearly as many cursed items and useless bait as I recall it having.

As I am without internet at home until Monday (thanks to an Edison pole upgrade) I cannot continue play the Lord of the Rings Online currently so I have returned to playing Battletech 2018, which is a most excellent game.

Battletech 2018? Has in - HBS Battletech? Yes, is a very good one. Just try with the latest BEX Mod - more nations, more mechs, and weapons, timeline extended up to 3057 - with clans. Comstar is also present - in a not good way - unless you want to collect SLDF / Royal mechs, LOL.
Is truly a new game.

I've been playing a lot of Cookie Clicker. Its addicting.

Went back into EU IV recently and put another 40 hours into the game, a decent amount of that in coop with a friend.

I also got the acclaimed The Forgotten City over Christmas Break, and finished it. I think its another example of how a competent writer can quite easily get a lot of acclaim for "excellent writing" in the video game space because of just how low standards are.
Don't get me wrong, its a good game, just not something that should be getting overwhelmingly positive reviews for its excellent narrative and having people say that it was one of the best written games of 2021.

I would also recommend trying out the Battletech Advanced: 3062 mod for that game. Lots of cool stuff in that mod, including playable tanks, playable Battle Armor squads and a 150-ton LAM (among more canonical LAMs). And major canonical events can actually trigger pseudo-flashpoint missions (if you have that DLC) for you to participate in and even influence the outcome of. And practically every faction in lore is represented on the Inner Sphere map, even the minor ones (though the Clans don't hire Mercs, so they only serve as OpFor to salvage clantech from).

I am currently playing Punch Club.

In real life I'm just a humble Mother, Wage Slave, Wife and Forum Administrator but in PUNCH CLUB? I could be a millionaire and not be nearly as cool as I am in this game!

Sunk a few hours into it while recovering from the Commie Cough and I must say the game is addictive in that it's a fun game to sink a few hours into every so often. It's like The Sims but instead of being some lame normal person, I am a fighter and martial artist with a Dead Dad I have to avenge and I spend all day working, training and getting into fights whether its officially sanctioned fights, underground ultimate fights, street fights or fighting criminals as some moron wearing tights and an eye mask. And 90% of my diet is pizza, STEAK and protein bars! MAKING GAINS! 💪

I've even battled ninja crocodiles in the sewer after tripping out over some Spicy Indian Pizza... or did I?

I'm also romancing the redheaded sister of my best friend with his blessing. I hope that doesn't turn out weird because it sure sounded weird typing that sentence out!

My main job is delivering pizza though and I do a good job at it! Better then that loser Peter Parker. Someday though, I will enter the sordid world of Underground Ultimate Fighting, discover who this mysterious "Red Eye" is, attend their secret island based martial arts tournament and avenge my Fathers death!

Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel

It launched like, three days ago, it has a very generous start up period if you know what the heck you are doing(or at least enough to know to check around for advice). Unless my assumptions prove entirely wrong(current assumptions, the 20 gem daily log in with seven slots and a two week timer will reset if you hit day eight before day fourteen, the rank seasons are monthly and involve a rank reset, the battle pass is always a two and a half month duration and as fast as it has been(I am already nearly to rank 70 and every youtuber seems to have already finished the thing), and the daily missions that I've seen over this three day period are representative(50 gems minimum, had a 70 gem one, not counting the log in one, or the "spectate Duel Live" one)) it'll stay reasonably F2P friendly, not "do whatever you want" like YGOPro, but literal light years better than Eternal, or MTG:A, or Pokemon.

Cyberpunk 2077, and despite the remaining bugs it was still brilliant.
This is what a modern RPG should look like.
I also played some Canada Simulator, aka Timberborn, Prodeus, BPM and Ion Fury recently
Prodeus is my current favorite where retro shooters are concerned.
BPM was kinda meh, the slow reload is killing me.

Finished Punch Club and it was a very fun game. It got slightly grindy towards the end where you were just fighting and training but I loved the quirky, constantly off the rail storyline. The game was inspired by tropes from all sorts of action movies from the 80's and 90's including Rocky especially but also Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Bloodsport, and even things like Robocop and Street Fighter and genres like Mob movies and Martial Arts movies of the 80's from America and Hong Kong etc.

Eighteen hours of solid gameplay and honestly some decent replayability as the plot is formatted in a way that there are multiple pathways with completely different encounters and settings and leagues in which you can build yourself up in. So there's still stuff I haven't even touched on despite playing through the game.

Would recommend.

I tried playing South Park: Fractured But Whole and This War of Mine but gave up on both pretty quickly. I played through the first South Park game, Stick of Truth and remember enjoying it but then after forty minutes of playing the sequel I just lost interest in it. Not sure if it's the mechanics or the story or a combination of both and the fact I just don't care about South Park anymore and haven't for years? Either way... it was played... and then uninstalled and I moved down the list.

This War of Mine only lasted fifteen minutes. Not sure why I was so massively uninterested in this game right after starting it but maybe it was just the entire initial bit of being overwhelmed by the resource management system and thinking this might just be a chore to be honest. And maybe also a little depressing, so after fifteen minutes I stopped playing that as well.

Ironically enough... I think that's most of the "easy" games to try out on my Steam Library that went unplayed. There's some super old games that I must've gotten in a bundle or super long RPG games that I won't give a try engaging with still unplayed but for the most part, I feel good in playing through a lot of my unplayed Steam Library. It was a fun time and I played through several really fun games including a trio of Telltale Adventure Games, Punch Club, and Bulletstorm among others.

Did you drop Cold Steel? Too boring?

Oh no, I'm absolutely going to finish it. I just rarely finish a long game in a short period of time.

I started Nier Replicant... in May of last year?

I switch what games I'm playing frequently.

I think it was getting The Forgotten City for Christmas that made me put down Cold Steel for a while.

Then I checked out Trails in the Sky, which is also in the rotation.

But I want to finish as many Trails games as possible before the anime comes out next year... but there's also a lot of other games going on.

Currently the games I'm most excited to play are Control and Vampire Survivor.
