Apparently it's not just one port, it's everywhere. Ports are getting backed up all over and the supply chain isn't moving.

Operating at 60-70% and the Biden administration is about to have a vax mandate that will UTTERLY CRIPPLE all industries and make the labor shortage exponentially worse.

This might end up worse than the great depression.

You all might want to Stock up canned goods and non perishable items NOW.

This is going to REALLY suck.

My mother and I are planning to go to Costo on Wednesday, and stock up. Rice, canned vegetables, some bottled water; you know, the basics. I'll also probably get some cooking oil and condiments we use often that store decently well (salsa, mayonnaise, barbecue sauce, et cetera, et cetera), as well as some spices and multivitamins. That, plus the several months worth of emergency food we bought just before the 2008 recession (which should still be good, seeing as most of it was supposed to last at least 15 years) ought to be enough last us quite a while.

It's pretty bad, now. And, it's not going to improve any time soon.

I'm in timber, in Australia. And, we're past the point where local timbers at 2-3 times the price of Pine, before, are now replacing Pine, because people and get it.

As for transport? Man, that's a mess. But, it might just force a few of the morons in charge to back off, and let us start making stuff again.

I hope. But, not much. Too many 'Elites' have no conception of the real world.

Lumber prices in Europe are getting insane as well, due to massive exports of raw lumber to China, endangering industries that use wood. Representatives of these industries have been calling on EU to limit the lumber exports (like Russia did) for some time, but eurocrats are dismissive of the needs of the industry.

You have no other choice, becouse elites become useless faster then countries - those countries which could change elites survived, those who could not was replaced by other people.

Poland need new elites, too.Becouse current are either traitors or idiots.

The fundamental problem, I think, is that the elites and whatever-crats are insulated from the effects of their actions. Millions of people losing their jobs due to stupid government policies? The clowns at the top don't care, because it doesn't hurt them.

I remember some poem about fall of Roman empire,by Kawakakis i think.
In some roman town dude is shouting "barbarian are coming" ,authorities call him madman and send to prison, and next day barbarian come.
Common people in both Roman empire and Byzantinum welcomed agressors as liberators becouse they were better then their elites.Current elites forget that lessons.

The taxes the "barbarian" conquerors would impose would be substantially less than what the Roman government had been extorting from the common people.
Also, if your town got re-conquered by Rome, they would want you to also pay the tax backlog for the time that it was under barbarian control, and therefore not subject to Roman taxation.

I'm don't think I posted this earlier: from Sep 29th

Long Beach & Los Angelos Ports currently show 153 Container ships in line.
-60 are currently being loaded/unloaded.
-The rest are either at anchor or adrift in deeper waters waiting their turn.
-Normal operations see 0-1 ship waiting to unload.

Chicogo rail hub (central point in US & probably largest rail distrubution point)
-currently has over 25 MILES of cars waiting to be serviced.
-there are 106 cars in mile, that makes 2,560 cars waiting to be serviced.

That's just two points of strain in our system.

If you think it's going to be bad in the States, it's going to be nightmare up here in Canada.

I've been sharpening up the machetes and maintaining my crossbow to fend off the leftist hordes that will inevitably show up.

Aside from staple carbs and veggies, it's worth investing in a fishing rod and some basic gear.

When the storm breaks, I'll be sitting by my local river getting my weekly protein.

The problem is, domestically overthrowing elites or conquering a country and replacing its elites with your own is really tricky and the better technology gets, the harder it becomes.

Essentially Sobek is right.
They value blind obedience far more than reliable service. They would rather have a incompetent servant who will never talk back than one who can do the job.
Before the age of MAD ending peer warfare between Great Powers and glowies with orwellian technologies preemptively preventing peasant revolts, strength was an asset for a nation. Now it's a threat, insofar as a competent and patrotic military led by competent and patriotic generals might decide to go after their leaders for harming their friends and family.

DUST 1947

miniature wargame Dust 1947 goes under, largely attributed to shipping issues and costs.

The tabletop games industry is hard to make money in. The materials and shipping required to make the product adds up, but you can't really charge much more or else people aren't going to buy the game. People are hesitant to buy brand new games, and supply chain disruptions that lead to higher costs in plastics can make it straight up unprofitable. As for the wargaminging, it seems to be shrinking? Or at least, nowhere near as popular as it once was. The average person can no longer afford to buy armies, (hence why skirmish games with smaller unit counts briefly became popular in the 2010s), but even those games are starting to become too expensive. So what you're left with are rich whales who are already too invested, who get milked by the company constantly doing rebalances or releasing better units to keep the whales buying (or else they wouldn't buy anything once they've amassed their army).

If it's not a minatures wargame it's likely hex-and-counter or space-and-counter, but those are even more niche and often boxed up so they'll fit on a bookshelf.

A typical parts list:
- 1 or 2 34"x22" maps folded up
- a couple 8.5"x11" pre-scored cardboard backed countersheets
- a printed rulebook
- a rules supplement (maybe)
- some reference cards on cardstock
- some very cheap dice you probably don't want to use, but they're there

The only things on that list someone with a color home printer can't make at home if they have .pdfs of everything are the dice and the maps.

The maps can be printed and sent to you by anyone who can print posters ... like FedEx.

Yes, if you really want to play a tabletop game you do not need to buy expensive stuff - make your own from cardboard, or modelling clay, or whatever.

Good for them, till it work.Becouse gradually it would let to situation where group of mercaneries would take over nation, and nobody would care. And some even welcome them as liberators.Becouse their secret police would not be capable of fighting anybody who fight back with modern stuff.

And we had new monarch and his paladins, becouse, let be frank, first kings was just chieftains with band of brigands.
I hope, that there would be remnants of normal priests capable of christiane those dudes.
